Weekly Recall: Stadium Gets a Power-Up

This week, I’m diving headfirst into Stadium, one of the liveliest and player-focused game modes out there! As gamers keep raising the bar with their tactics and rivalries, the creators are unveiling significant updates to enhance our gaming experience. These changes are based on your valuable feedback and a wealth of data, so here’s a sneak peek at what’s in store – from today, through tomorrow, and as we move forward into new seasons!

Leveling Up Matchmaking

As a gamer diving into the thrilling world of Stadium, I’ve learned that matchmaking is all about striking a delicate equilibrium, given the rapid changes this vibrant mode undergoes. It didn’t take long for players to spot some inconsistencies—and luckily, the developers have been keen listeners.

Initially designed to adjust rankings for novice gamers, an internal MMR adjustor got accidentally applied to all players instead. This led to larger-than-expected skill disparities in the matchmaking system. However, there’s some positive news! A fix for this problem is scheduled to release on June 3rd, ensuring more balanced matches in the future.

To enhance the recognition for players demonstrating competitive advancement, the Ranked Skill Bonus for Pro, All-Star, and Legend tier players has been boosted from 25 to 50 points. This adjustment aims to facilitate a smoother ascent towards the All-Star rank and increases the chances of unlocking the highly sought-after All-Star Legendary Juno skin. Additionally, the deadline for completing challenges has been extended until the end of Season 17, providing ample opportunity to strive for that goal.

The equilibrium of the hero, particularly the newly introduced character Freja, is drawing attention. This fresh recruit has sparked strong responses, prompting the game developers to adjust its power level (nerf) and introduce a new counter-air artifact for Season 17, aiming to ensure fair play.

Introducing Stadium Forge: Builds Made Social

Prepare to tap into your strategic side! Starting with Season 17, Stadium Forge – our long-awaited addition – allows you to store, distribute, and incorporate tailor-made Battle Plans for characters such as Soldier: 76 and Reinhardt.

As a gamer, I’ll have the convenience of customizing my character builds right at the Stadium Practice Range and during matches in the Armory. This feature allows for quick and strategic adjustments to my loadout on the fly. Additionally, there will be provided examples of Builds and suggested items to help both beginners and experienced players navigate early-game and late-game strategies effectively.

Stadium Forge enables players to experiment with various setups, whether it’s trying out a professional player’s gear, using a mix from a friend, or perfecting their own design. This platform offers players the chance to collaborate and refine their work. For content creators, it presents an exceptional opportunity to shape the game’s dynamics and assist others in their development.

As a gamer, I’m pumped to share an in-depth focus on Stadium Forge coming up next! You’ll get the lowdown on pro strategies and see some of the top community-created builds. Stay tuned!

New Ways to Play: Unranked Mode and Backfill

Season 17 goes beyond refining gameplay; it’s about broadening your gaming experience. An Unranked Mode will be introduced in Stadium, providing a relaxed environment for players of all skill levels to engage in matches without the stress associated with Ranked play.

In these unranked matches, the playstyle will switch from best-of-seven to best-of-five, there won’t be a mercy rule, and players will receive extra Stadium Cash, allowing them to implement their strategies quickly. Power-ups will activate during rounds 1, 3, 4, and 5, ensuring an intense and interactive gaming experience.

As a gamer, I’m excited about the new Backfill system the developers are implementing in this more laid-back gaming environment. It’s similar to the one used in Overwatch’s Quick Play. If someone drops out during a game, a new player will jump in and catch up based on the match progression. Plus, they’ll even get some in-game cash as a reward! And before they dive into the action, they’ll have a chance to check out the shop.

In the process of the MMR system finding its balance, I’m excited that Ranked Stadium is going to tighten up the grouping rules, much like they do in Overwatch’s primary Competitive mode. This change promises a more evenly matched experience, particularly for those playing at higher ranks or during extended queue times, ensuring a fair and enjoyable gaming environment for all.

Final Thoughts

The stadium is undergoing swift changes, and it’s evident that the team responsible for its development has a strong focus on community collaboration. With improved matchmaking systems, easier gameplay accessibility, and the much-anticipated Stadium Forge coming soon, Season 17 promises to be a significant milestone.

Keep tuned to TopMob for further developments, analysis, and community feedback as Stadium evolves and progresses.
