Fantastic Four: First Steps Confirms MCU Debut of One of Marvel’s Earliest Villains

At the recent CCXP convention in Mexico, actor Joseph Quinn hinted that the famous Marvel Comics character, Mole Man, will make an appearance in the upcoming film, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”. Although it’s uncertain whether this information was meant to be disclosed yet or if it was an accidental reveal, fans are already excitedly speculating about Mole Man’s part in this movie and his potential future within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Marvel Studios has yet to officially confirm Quinn’s announcement.

Quinn made a remark over the weekend, ‘Indeed, our cast is quite impressive with numerous captivating characters,’ he said, as the crowd erupted in applause. He also mentioned Mole Man, whom he praised, and hinted at Galactus being the main antagonist. This has sparked speculation among fans that Mole Man will make an appearance in this film. Some even suspect Quinn’s comment was a subtle confirmation due to the theory’s popularity online. As for who might be playing the villain, it’s still a mystery, but there are rumors that Paul Walter Hauser could be the one, as his name appears on the cast list, though his role remains undisclosed.

In 1961, Mole Man debuted in Fantastic Four #1, establishing him as one of Marvel’s earliest antagonists. Ostracized by society throughout his life, Harvey Elder transformed into a disillusioned scientist yearning for adventure. His quest led him to the legends of an idyllic subterranean world. Ultimately finding access to this underground realm via Monster Isle, he discovered sophisticated technology and terrifying creatures. With these resources, Mole Man sought retribution against the surface world.

In the upcoming film “First Steps“, it’s likely that Mole Man will be portrayed as a comical secondary character, given his current depiction in Marvel storylines. He might initiate an action sequence at the start, setting up our protagonists and their roles within this world. However, with Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner) present, there’s not likely to be much focus on subterranean lore in this movie.

Beyond this, the film “First Steps” faces the challenging task of weaving its narrative into the larger Marvel Cinatic Universe (MCU) and escalating the tension for the Multiverse Saga. Set in an alternate universe, it’s clear that it will intersect with the primary timeline by the time of “Avengers: Doomsday” next year. There are many unanswered questions to address, and the limited timeframe leaves little room for detours or side adventures.

The first installment of Fantastic Four, titled ‘First Steps’, will be released in theaters on July 25th. Next up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is ‘Ironheart’, which will debut on Disney+ on June 24th.
