Severance Season 3: Star Reveals Why Fans Might Wait Less and What’s Next

Season 1 received tremendous success. The idea of dividing a character into professional “core” and personal “shell” left people both awestruck and appalled. Regrettably, this added significant stress to the show – as anticipation for such a development had built up over time.

Adam Scott, both the lead actor and producer of the series, had some concerns at first about the extended delay for season two. The fact that the first season concluded with a significant cliffhanger didn’t make things easier: his character Mark was left reeling from the unexpected revelation that his wife was alive. As Scott explained to an interviewer, their primary worry was keeping the audience engaged after such a long hiatus of three years.

Instead of taking another extended hiatus, it appears that Severance remains a consistent topic in his life. “We’ve been on break from filming for approximately a year now – I’ve mostly been either rewatching the series or conversing about it with [co-stars] and [creator] Dan [Erickson],” he stated. “Severance is always present in our daily lives. Whether we’re filming or not, we frequently discuss it.

Patricia Arquette, portraying Harmony Cobel, shared similar apprehensions regarding season 2. She breathed a sigh of relief when it proved popular with viewers. “I was anxious about some of the risks the creative team were taking: ‘What if this doesn’t resonate?'” she admitted. “They didn’t rest on their laurels from the first year’s success – they took bolder steps in the second season.“

While waiting for Season 2, there were whispers of tension backstage, but in reality, Scott, Erickson, Stiller, and their team were aiming for a refined production. “Our show is distinctive, and during Season 1, we were still defining its identity as we went along,” Scott explained. “In Season 2, the show underwent change and growth – we were once again discovering its essence because it was crucial to us that it didn’t feel repetitive. Sometimes this process requires time.

Season 3 Won’t Have As Long a Wait

Many people are starting to worry that they might need to be patient for quite some time before Season 3 of Severance arrives, given that it concluded with a suspenseful twist.

He shared last month that he “really wants to complete the series before turning 70.” He also expressed his hope for Season 3 to arrive sooner, acknowledging that part of the delay in Season 2 was due to strikes which halted production for five to six months. Unlike the shutdown during Season 1 due to Covid, this time he couldn’t even think about or work on the scripts during the hiatus as he was literally putting down his pencils.

He continued, “We have always been meticulous and cautious when narrating our story, and this was true even in season 1. In fact, both seasons required approximately the same amount of time to produce, but the distinction lies in that viewers weren’t anticipating it as much during season 1.
