If you’re eagerly awaiting a remake of Resident Evil 5, it might be wise to manage your expectations as such a release may not be imminent. Capcom, a prominent Japanese video game publisher, maintains its status by thoroughly supporting its major franchises, with Resident Evil being one of them. While games like Street Fighter receive continuous support, the Resident Evil series is equally crucial. This franchise has stood the test of time since its inception in the 90s and remains popular due to regular updates in the survival horror series, as well as frequent reinventions through co-op stories, first-person horror elements, and more.
Over the past ten years, Capcom has significantly revamped Resident Evil to achieve its highest level of popularity yet. With a new Resident Evil film imminent, there’s speculation about when the next game will drop. It’s widely anticipated that we might see an announcement for Resident Evil 9 soon after a four-year hiatus, but fans are left guessing about the remakes progress. Capcom has done an impressive job in modernizing all the mainline Resident Evil games with updated controls, story adjustments, and numerous other enhancements. This not only attracts new enthusiasts, but also offers longtime fans a rejuvenated take on something they cherish deeply.
After the success of Capcom’s remakes, particularly with Resident Evil 4, unfortunately, some of the subsequent games have been less well-received. Resident Evil 5, for instance, has sparked controversy and left some questioning whether Capcom will continue with this series. At the moment, it seems that Capcom is channeling its energy into remaking other Resident Evil games like Code Veronica, as a Resident Evil 5 Remake appears not to be in active development, according to credible Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem on Twitter. However, he believes that it will eventually be remade.
The Resident Evil 5 remake might not be under active development at this moment, but given its similarities to Code Veronica’s status in the past (where it was more a matter of “when” than “if”), I have a feeling that it could still happen. Just as Code Veronica Remake wasn’t being developed in 2020, but started development later in late 2022, RE5 remake might also be in the pipeline for future development.

Indeed, such a reimagining for Capcom’s Resident Evil 5 would mark a significant departure from its predecessors. Unlike past remakes, this one might introduce cooperative gameplay, making it the first title in the series to offer this feature in a fully remastered version. Considering the importance of cooperative play in the game’s success and the potential for increased sales as players entice their friends to join them, it seems improbable that Capcom would overlook this aspect. However, at present, it appears that a Resident Evil 5 remake could be several years down the line, given Capcom’s current focus on other projects within the series.
It’s possible that the remake of Resident Evil 5 may come out on the PlayStation 6 and the next Xbox model. Capcom hasn’t revealed their exact plans yet, but for now, we can only anticipate more cooperative Resident Evil experiences. If and when a remake of Resident Evil 5 happens, it might motivate Capcom to create new co-op games in the series. The future remains uncertain regarding the development of fresh cooperative Resident Evil titles.
