It’s quite unexpected that horror and anime genres don’t mix seamlessly. Several notable attempts to animate renowned horror manga, such as those by Junji Ito, have fallen flat, leaving fans disappointed and even chuckling at the results. However, this Summer season, Netflix aims to rectify this with its latest horror series titled “The Summer Hikaru Died“. The manga of the same name, penned by Mokumokuren, was first published in 2021 and has since garnered widespread acclaim among manga enthusiasts. “The Summer Hikaru Died” is one of the most eagerly awaited releases of Summer 2025, even against formidable shonen contenders like “Dandadan“, “Demon Slayer“, “Kaiju No. 8“, and “Chainsaw Man” (all of which are set to release new seasons/movies this Summer). The newly released trailer for the anime adaptation certainly justifies the excitement among fans.
