Mama June Shannon’s family dynamic isn’t what she’d like it to be.

After the passing of her daughter Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell in December 2023, the star of Mama June: Family Crisis managed to secure custody of granddaughter Kaitlyn. However, this legal victory was tinged with sadness as she revealed that since their mother’s funeral, Kaitlyn has not seen her half-sister Kylee, who is only 9 years old.

In a recent interview with People, the reality star stated, “I’m sorry to say, but no,” and clarified that it’s not because of us.

Mama June and Kylee’s parent, Michael Cardwell, found themselves in a contentious legal dispute regarding Kaitlyn. This occurred when he started dating Anna, with Kaitlyn being just 8 months old. In September, the court ruled in favor of the 45-year-old, citing that Michael, who has custody of his biological daughter Kylee, “never offered substantial financial assistance,” as stated in court records obtained by People earlier.

Mama June expressed her dislike, “It was really tough that we had to go through that.” She wished they could discuss the matter and find a resolution, but it seemed impossible no matter how much she pleaded for it. However, things are as they are, not as they aren’t.

Mama June clarified that, despite bearing a price, she believed the decision made was appropriate.

At the close of the day, I understood exactly what Anna desired, so we simply took action and carried it out, as she expressed. Furthermore, she mentioned that they had no alternative but to do so in this situation.

After Anna passed away due to adrenal cancer in 2023, Mama June has been open about how she continues to honor her deceased daughter’s memory.

In a Facebook update from December, it was stated that “she remains part of our family group chat.” She mentioned that she has no intention of deleting any messages or removing her from the conversation.

Mama June mentioned that she often finds herself on Anna’s TikTok account. She enjoys watching her videos regularly and searches for Anna’s name to discover more videos created by others for her.

Ann, the well-known younger sibling from shows like “Toddlers & Tiaras” and “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo“, who also appeared on “Mama June: From Not to Hot“, shared on her Instagram, “I regret having to make this post. Last night, we all gathered around Anna, showing her our love, and reassuring her it was okay to let go. Unfortunately, around 11pm, Anna took her final breath.

She went on to say, “Anna experienced intense pain last night, but now, as a family, we understand that she has found peace. I’m at a loss for words because my heart is shattered into pieces. Witnessing my 29-year-old sister fight this dreadful disease for the past year hasn’t been an easy journey. Anna has always been strong and continues to be so. Dear Lord, please embrace her two children and our family during these upcoming days as we face the harsh reality of what lies ahead.

During Anna’s cancer treatment, she managed to witness her younger sister complete high school graduation. Currently, her sister Alana attends college.

The 18-year-old expressed their joy that they were home when you took your last breath. It would have been wonderful for them to witness your graduation, but they know you’ll continue to encourage them from heaven! We will all ensure your memory remains vibrant and alive. And I pledge to celebrate our birthdays as if you are still with us.

Alana went on saying, “Today’s sky seems somewhat altered. Forever, we’ll cherish you, Anna. Even though your blow was harsh, Anna, I believe you’re now in a state of eternal peace and freedom from pain.

Alana’s sister wrote on her Instagram Stories, “Fly high sweet angel.”

Moreover, she additionally conveyed a sympathetic note on behalf of the production team at WE tv, where her mother’s reality series is made, expressing concern about how to recover after such an event.
