As a die-hard Star Trek fan, I can’t help but share my dream: Sonequa Martin-Green‘s character, Captain Michael Burnham from Star Trek: Discovery, might one day join forces with the legendary captains of other Star Trek series. Specifically, I’m thinking about Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation and James T. Kirk from the original Star Trek series. After five seasons leading Star Trek: Discovery, Michael Burnham’s well-deserved promotion to Captain of the USS Discovery at the end of season 3 has positioned her among Star Trek’s most esteemed captains, making this crossover a dream come true!

At a Star Trek panel hosted by Joe Deckelmeier from ScreenRant during Fan Expo Dallas, Sonequa Martin-Green expressed her imagination about Captain Burnham encountering other Star Trek Captains. Given that Michael and these captains share the commonality of being pioneering leaders within the Star Trek universe, it’s no surprise that Sonequa envisions a crossover with them. It makes sense that Sonequa Martin-Green wants Captain Michael Burnham to meet Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine because Sisko pioneered the role Burnham now holds as the first African American Captain in a Star Trek series. Similar to Burnham, Sisko initially served as a Commander in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and it wasn’t until three seasons later that he was promoted to Captain – much like how Michael Burnham became a Captain at the conclusion of Star Trek: Discovery season 3.

Captain Kathryn Janeway (portrayed by Kate Mulgrew) paved the way for Michael Burnham to soar in Star Trek: Discovery. Although other female Captains existed within Star Trek, Janeway was the pioneer who led a Star Trek television series as its commander. Following Star Trek: Voyager, she was promoted to the rank of Admiral, a position she retains in Star Trek: Prodigy. Kate Mulgrew recently reprised her role as Admiral Janeway in Star Trek: Prodigy, but there’s a logical hurdle: Captain Burnham is living in the 32nd century, far removed from Janeway in Star Trek’s timeline.

In the universe of Star Trek, when there’s a desire, a solution is always found. It’s imaginable that the Captains from Star Trek could embark on an extraordinary joint mission. While it’s somewhat probable that Captain Burnham might encounter other Captains in an animated Star Trek series, another possibility is seeing dream collaborations in the Star Trek comics published by IDW. Although they may not share a screen together, the impact of Captain Sisko and Captain Janeway on Captain Burnham’s character can be observed in Star Trek: Discovery.
