Elden Ring: Nightreign strays slightly from the original Elden Ring journey, focusing more intensely on the game’s combative aspects rather than its expansive exploration and captivating world. Given the absence of a robust environment, how does Nightreign create a unique setting?
Featuring distinctive, ready-to-use characters, indeed. Each Nightfarer showcases an individual playstyle, and they all share a narrative revolving around Memories, rekindling aspects of their lives they had previously overlooked. Ironeye, with his mission in tow, has only partially completed it at the Roundtable Hold.
What Is The Journal?
Instead of dispersing the Nightfarer stories across various locations, they are consolidated in one place for convenience. This central hub is referred to as the Journal, a book found near the garden side of the Roundtable Hold. The Journal houses individual written accounts that follow the narrative of each character, with each new entry adding more depth to their story.
The Journal serves not only as a storage but also a platform for accessing Reminiscences. These Reminiscences are drawn from the most recent entry in the Journal once they have been made accessible. Generally speaking, each character typically has around eight entries in their individual Journals, though this number may vary slightly between characters. For instance, Executor possesses seven entries, whereas the protective Guardian has a total of ten.
You’ll know that a character’s journal entries are finished when you see a drawing added at the end.
It’s convenient that you can access the Journal whenever you’re in the Roundtable Hold, no matter which character you’re controlling at the moment. Should you find yourself needing a refresher on a particular character’s history, simply visit the Journal for a quick catch-up.
How To Unlock Memory Fragments

Memory Fragments in Nightreign aren’t exactly what they first appear to be. Unlike items you might find and store in your inventory, these fragments are partially randomly unlocked. Once unlocked, they automatically reveal the next Journal entry or Remembrance for the character you were controlling when you obtained them.
To effectively locate these Memory Fragments, we need to understand their nature and function first. However, it’s important to note that there are no foolproof methods for acquiring them; only probable ones. For instance, certain characters may uncover Memory Fragments through actions specific to them, such as the Executor achieving multiple deflections. Yet, these events are quite unpredictable and it can be unclear when an action will lead to unlocking them.
Instead, let’s concentrate on more reliable strategies, as defeating Nightlords alongside a specific character will yield Memory Fragments for them, which in turn grant additional Remembrances. Each new Remembrance for a character usually demands more advancement than the previous one. For instance, you can often earn a character’s first Remembrance by completing an expedition with them, regardless of how far the match progressed. Merely taking part is sufficient. However, subsequent ones typically necessitate defeating a Nightlord at the end of an expedition.
Occasionally, a Memory Fragment won’t lead to the next Remembrance but instead will open up new Journal Entries. More often than not, however, one Memory Fragment will reveal multiple Journal entries and even several Remembrances. Generally speaking, though, you’ll uncover a single Remembrance with a single Memory Fragment.
Ironeye’s Remembrances

Most characters typically have three opportunities to revisit memories, but there are instances where this rule doesn’t apply. Guardian has four memory sequences to experience, while Ironeye only has two. In essence, Ironeye initially has two active memories that need to be unlocked, and a final personal goal that can be deduced by reading his Journal entries carefully. Here is a list of all his memories, along with instructions on how to achieve the unique ending for him.
Remembrance #1

In Ironeye’s initial assignment from the Remembrance, he must journey to Limveld to retrieve a letter that has fallen into the hands of a betrayer, who is opposed to the secretive organization known as the Fellowship, of which Ironeye is a member. Here are some strategies and advice for handling the traitor:
1. Gather Intelligence: Find out more about the traitor’s movements, associates, and any potential weaknesses that can be exploited.
2. Disguise Yourself: If necessary, adopt a disguise to blend in with the environment and avoid detection by the traitor or their allies.
3. Use Allies: Seek help from trusted members of the Fellowship who may have information or resources that can aid you in your mission.
4. Be Cautious: Approach the traitor carefully, as they are likely aware of your intentions and may be prepared for confrontation.
5. Negotiate if Possible: If possible, attempt to negotiate with the traitor and find a peaceful resolution that does not involve violence.
6. Be Prepared for Conflict: If negotiations fail or it becomes clear that confrontation is inevitable, be ready to defend yourself and complete your mission by any means necessary.
- Talk to the Priestess.
- Ask her every question.
- Defeated the Condemned in Limveld.
- Return to the Priestess.
The deceiver disguises himself as a Condemned, resembling Ironeye in appearance. This treacherous figure wields a dagger that inflicts severe Bleeding, and employs the Swarm of Flies Spell to cause Bleeding from afar. Just like the authentic Ironeye, he carries a bow and can Mark you similarly. To minimize Bleeding damage, it’s advisable to maintain distance, and using manual aiming, especially when in elevated positions, can be beneficial for better targeting.
It’s wise to wait until the second day to confront the traitor, since they are rather formidable. However, make sure you are at least level three before engaging in battle. Once defeated, you’ll receive the Traitor’s Letter. Hand this over to the Priestess to finish the Remembrance and obtain both the Broken Sealing Wax Relic and Ironeye’s Chalice for Relic Rites.
Remembrance #2

In my enthusiastic pursuit as a devoted fan, I delve into the intricacies of Ironeye’s final Remembrance – the thrilling tale of unmasking another traitor and unearthing hidden truths about his own past. Here’s a step-by-step guide to navigate this gripping adventure.
1. Identify the suspect: Begin by gathering clues and narrowing down potential traitors, following their movements, and scrutinizing their actions to pinpoint the true culprit.
2. Gather evidence: Collect incriminating proof to support your suspicions, ensuring that it is solid enough to stand up in the face of any challenges or doubts.
3. Confront the traitor: Engage in a tense showdown with the unmasked villain, exposing their treacherous deeds and bringing them to justice.
4. Reveal secrets about existence: Delve into the mysteries surrounding Ironeye’s past, uncovering long-hidden truths that will shed new light on his very being.
5. Deal with the consequences: Face whatever challenges or revelations arise as a result of these discoveries, adapting and growing stronger in the process.
- Talk to the Priestess. She is in the crypt.
- Execute the traitor.
- Travel to Limveld to get an Edge of Order. This requires defeating the Darkdrift Knight.
- Actually execute the traitor this time.
It’s crucial that you assume the role of the Darkdrift Knight during your expedition. You can’t choose any character other than this one. The reason being, you’ll have to overcome a Nightlord, and doing it alone would be quite challenging. In addition, engaging in the Realm of Remembrance prevents you from teaming up with others who are also in a similar state. Therefore, it might be wise to gather some friends for this quest. Otherwise, finding a compatible match could take some time.
In the battle against Fulghor, also known as the Darkdrift Knight, remember he is vulnerable to lightning. If you don’t have a weapon with that attribute, try to keep your distance while fighting him and let your allies absorb most of his attacks. It will be challenging!
Remembrance #3

In a slightly different manner than others, Ironeye’s last Remembrance doesn’t actually exist as it has not occurred yet. Unlike other Remembrances which are recollections of past events, Ironeye’s third one is still pending because he still has a mission to complete – the killing of the Night Aspect.
To finish Ironeye’s last and concluding Remembrance, you need to vanquish Night Aspect. Notably, this encounter does not transpire within the Realm of Remembrance, so feel free to engage in matchmaking without concerns about your active Remembrance affecting your freedom to participate. Given that this boss battle marks the culmination of the game, it will be challenging to conquer it alone, thus I recommend assembling a strong team for the task.
As a devoted fan, I’d strongly recommend equipping Ironeye’s Edge of Order Relic for this upcoming expedition. This artifact imbues his bow with Holy power, which is exactly what Night Aspect finds weak against. After overcoming Heolstor, you’ll find yourself in a devastated Roundtable Hold. At the end, an emaciated figure lies ahead. Instead of placing the Nightlord’s Rune within him, opt for the ‘Clench Dagger’ move when prompted.
As a gamer, I’ll tell you this: Slaying the character ahead of me will see Ironeye fulfilling his mission completely, leaving no stone unturned. Once the credits start to roll, I’ll earn the Remembrance outfit that belonged to Ironeye, wrapping up his tale for good.
Since Ironeye’s ending deviates from the standard game conclusion, you won’t earn a trophy or achievement upon finishing the game in this manner.
