Doctor Who Wish World Ratings Drop Despite Record Viewership

As fans of Doctor Who season 15 continue to process the mind-blowing finale, the initial ratings for the first half of the final episode have been released after a week.

In the initial part of the two-episode finale, “Wish World,” featuring Ncuti Gatwa as The Doctor and Varada Sethu as Belinda Chandra, ventured into an imagined world conjured by Conrad Clark (portrayed by Jonah Hauer-King). This fantastical realm was crafted by the enigmatic character The Rani, played by Archie Panjabi.

On Saturday, the 24th of May, 2025, the program will be broadcast on BBC One at 6:50 PM. Based on initial viewing figures, it attracted approximately 1.8 million spectators.

Through Barb’s confirmation, it has been ascertained that Wish World garnered approximately 2,856,000 viewers throughout the week.

Last week’s Interstellar Song Contest episode had significantly fewer viewers compared to the 3,754,000 who tuned in the previous week. However, it’s important to note that these numbers are the highest viewership recorded throughout the series so far.

It’s also worth considering that the lower ratings for Wish World could be due to some specific reasons.

On May 31st, movie theaters presented a special double feature of “World” and its season 15 finale, “The Reality War.” This screening might have prevented some enthusiasts from tuning in live or catching up later on BBC iPlayer.

In the following narrative, I’m referring to an event from my perspective: Overnight viewing statistics mirrored a similar trend for The Reality War, where, after much anticipation, Ncuti Gatwa unexpectedly departed the TARDIS.

Currently, there’s no definite word about whether our favorite show will continue or not, as we’re still waiting for confirmation regarding a possible Season 16.

Regardless, the final episode of season 15 featured a surprising return by Thirteenth Doctor Jodie Whittaker. This event hinted at a fresh start for the next season, as it suggested the unexpected comeback of Rose Tyler (Billie Piper), who seemed to be The Doctor’s latest regeneration.

Doctor Who is available to stream on BBC iPlayer in the UK and on Disney+ outside of the UK.
