Independent publisher Pocketpair Publishing, associated with the studio responsible for the popular game Palworld, has officially unveiled the chilling game Dead Take in collaboration with developers Surgent Studios, creators of Tales of Kenzera: Zau. The spine-tingling title was introduced alongside a fresh trailer, which you can view below.
As a thrilled fan, I can’t help but share my excitement over the tantalizing glimpse into Dead Take’s chilling universe offered by the recent teaser trailer. Though it remains cryptic, the hints we’ve been given about the terror that awaits us have me on the edge of my seat. The clever application of vintage video glitches, such as static-filled scenes and subtle Easter eggs for the astute viewer to discover, adds an extra layer of intrigue. And while there’s no definite release date yet, the ominous “coming soon” has me counting down the days.
As reported by Surgent Studios, the narrative of the game titled Dead Take will focus on players gradually exposing the grim truths concealed beneath the shiny surface of the entertainment world. At this point, the studio appears reluctant to disclose further information about the game. CEO Abubakar Salim hinted at the sensitivity of the subject matter.
As a passionate advocate for our upcoming game, Dead Take, let me share some insight. We’ve chosen to maintain a veil of secrecy, and there’s a good reason behind it. The theme this game explores is sensitive, and it resonates deeply with my personal experiences. I eagerly anticipate the moment when you, the players, will be equally astonished upon experiencing our creation, exclaiming, “I can’t believe they actually did this!
Back in January, Pocketpair and Surgent Studios officially teamed up for their first collaboration. Initially, it was shared that Surgent’s upcoming game would be the first project published by Pocketpair. At its announcement, the game was merely classified as a “fresh horror title” with an innovative concept.
Salim elaborated more on the partnership, explaining that Surgent Studios and Pocketpair complement each other well due to their shared inclination towards taking risks. He mentioned that “Dead Take” would be an unconventional, short production. Additionally, he disclosed that discussions were ongoing for producing additional titles set in the Tales of Kenzera: Zau universe.
Salim mentioned that they’ve spotted a recurring theme in the entertainment world, which has inspired us to create a horror game. With Pocketpair backing us, we’re taking a chance on this project. The game will be brief and unsettling, but we believe it will capture players’ attention with its unique narrative.
Although we’re continuing our discussions about more stories within the Tales of Kenzera world, this new project is intended to stand alone. It serves as a significant milestone, marking both our past achievements and future direction.
In a short time after announcing the establishment of Pocketpair Publishing, they began receiving proposals from independent game studios within just 24 hours. As stated by communications director and publishing manager, John Buckley on platform X, “I announced Pocketpair Publishing only 15 hours ago… Before that, my inboxes were empty… I may have underestimated the level of interest here.
The game titled “Dead Take” is scheduled to launch on personal computers. At this point, it’s undecided if it will also appear on gaming consoles. For now, you can add the game to your wishlist on Steam.
