I’m absolutely thrilled about the latest twist in “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes”! The anime has been a breath of fresh air this Spring, and the newest episode has finally unveiled the astonishing hidden power within Koichi Haimawari’s unique quirk. This spin-off series is providing an intriguing glimpse into a different facet of the “My Hero Academia” universe, and it appears that some citizens like Koichi have stepped up to assist their communities when traditional heroes are in short supply across Japan. However, Koichi isn’t your average hero; his quirk might seem insignificant at first glance, but it holds a power yet to be fully realized!
In “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes,” Koichi has been encountering progressively difficult situations, with the crooks he’s dealing with appearing to grow stronger by the day. This challenging environment has led him to discover innovative uses for his Slide and Glide ability. It was previously thought that this power would only allow him to glide a short distance above the ground, but a recent episode of the show unveiled an unexpected twist: Koichi’s quirk actually grants him the complete ability to fly! Unfortunately, he had inadvertently suppressed this remarkable potential.
Wow, Koichiii can really fly! That save on Ingenium was insane and the animation was amazing! I loved it so much! Oh my goodness, they did such a fantastic job with it.

My Hero Academia Reveals Koichi’s True Quirk Power
Episode 9 of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes introduces Koichi’s mother, who develops a strong connection with Makoto. The trio embarks on a tour around Tokyo together, but their journey takes an unexpected turn when a rogue cat, controlled by Kuin’s quirk and injected with the Trigger drug, seizes their bus. Ingenium manages to keep pace with the chaotic vehicle, saving many passengers. However, complications arise as Kuin intervenes again, causing the bus to malfunction once more, with Makoto still inside.
In the heat of the moment, it’s Koichi who steps up to aid Ingenium, as the hero’s vehicle was running low on fuel and slowing down, with the bus barreling towards a road gap. Seeing the dire situation, Koichi takes a bold action and pulls Makoto off the bus just before it collides with the ground. To keep them both aloft, Koichi employs his Slide and Glide ability, channeling it through his feet to propel them briefly through the air. It appears that his quirk is undergoing some changes.
What’s Happening to Koichi’s Quirk?
Despite the appearance that Koichi’s ability is only manifesting under pressure, similar to Deku and others in the original My Hero Academia series, his mother clarifies that he had this power all along. In conversation with Knuckleduster (in civilian attire), she revealed that as a baby, Koichi was already capable of flying. Her fear of him flying away led her to slap him. Over time, this reaction became a pattern that limited Koichi’s growth in some way.
It’s become clear that Koichi’s ability isn’t limited to hovering slightly above objects; he can actually fly for brief spans. As we witness his battles against villains and dramatic rescues in the latest episode, it seems likely that Koichi will further develop this skill to reach even greater potential. This growth might also boost his confidence, which is a positive step towards self-belief. His journey reflects the path of a true hero.
