The upcoming game titled AION 2 has been announced recently, and fans of Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPGs) have something exciting to anticipate. If you can ignore the fact that it’s a Korean MMO, then you might be eager for its release, especially if you remember playing the first one many years ago. It boasts an appealing character creation system, although we currently don’t know much about it.
We got a sneak peek at how the game operates, and since they shared a brief teaser, let’s discuss what we saw and anticipate for the complete game release!
AION 2’s Character Creation Looks Amazing
Recently, some short video snippets featuring character customization and in-game cutscenes have been popping up online, but these are currently in the Korean language since no news of a western release has surfaced as of now.
In a shift from their previous titles, NCSoft’s upcoming game seems to be emphasizing action-based gameplay rather than pay-to-win mechanics, as suggested by their past releases. Given this change in direction, it’s logical that they are improving the character customization options.
In the present view, you’ll only see the predefined styles tailored for female characters exclusively. Given that it’s an MMO with Korean origins, there are plenty of options featuring doll-like aesthetics in this character customization section, and it seems like you have a vast array of preset faces to select from.
Through some machine translation assistance, it appears that the primary customization areas are predominantly linked to the head region. We find options like face, hair, makeup, and “styling”, which presumably covers other related aspects. The final tab is labeled as “form“, likely serving as a catch-all term for the rest of the body’s customization.
In these games, you have numerous possibilities to customize your character, yet the selection of skin tones and hair colors appears quite limited. Some gamers might find this frustrating, but it’s not uncommon for Korean MMORPGs to have such constraints.
In the Character Customization section, you’ll find settings to modify your character’s overall facial structure, eyes, nose, and mouth. Each of these sections has separate adjustable sliders that allow you to fine-tune specific details, like the angle of your eyes or the placement of your nose.
Additionally, there’s an intuitive facial customization tool that allows you to effortlessly manipulate the overall appearance of your character. You can easily tweak elements like eye placement and jawline by simply rotating a knob.
As a devoted fan, I’m eagerly exploring this Korean app, but since we’re relying on machine translation to navigate its content, it’s a bit tricky to understand some of the specific options available, especially in categories like “nose”. For instance, certain options are being translated into “kohal”, which seems to hold no significant meaning. I’m hoping for an update or clarification to help me better understand and make the most out of this fascinating app!
Regrettably, the preview primarily concentrated on the preset options and facial attributes, neglecting the hair and body sections entirely. This leaves us uncertain about the depth of customization that can be achieved for these areas.
Based on the usual character designs in Korean MMOs, it’s likely that there won’t be much muscle definition or bulk for either body type. These games often structure their customization systems around their home country’s beauty standards, so you’ll probably find that all presets resemble popular musicians.
It’s worth mentioning that while this current system looks fantastic, it’s important to note that similar deep character customization systems have been around for quite some time in older titles. For instance, the character creation system in Black Desert Online, which is over a decade old, was remarkably advanced for its time and can even compete with this one.
For now, it seems that Black Desert Online remains the benchmark for character creation in Korean MMOs, but with Aion 2 on the horizon, it’s bound to give a strong challenge.
In a somewhat diverse range of styles, the character creation system in All Points Bulletin provides numerous chances for customization that hasn’t been surpassed by any other system as of now.
As a gaming enthusiast, if Aion 2 offers the same degree of customization I’ve come to love, it’s going to be the clear winner in my book. From what I’ve seen so far during the preview stream, it looks like they’re introducing something exciting – morphable body sections. This is a theory that’s been buzzing around among the gaming community, and it’s intriguing to note that they allegedly hinted at the possibility of creating “chubby” characters. This adds fuel to the assumption that we might indeed be able to shape our characters in ways that truly reflect our unique styles.
Additionally, you’ll find a diverse array of courses available for selection, though our understanding of them is limited beyond their titles. At present, there are quite a few of these courses, but we can’t precisely define what they entail due to the absence of clear translations. However, rest assured that more detailed descriptions will be forthcoming.
- Warrior – There will be templar and gladiator sub classes, just like in the original. Little is known about them right now, but it is safe to assume that the former will be the main choice for tanks, while the latter is more on DPS.
- Scout – For this class, you can branch out into a ranger or an assassin. These are fairly straightforward, so you should not need any further explanations for them.
- Mage – The spiritmaster and sorcerer are returning in this version of the game too. The only thing to note here is that the former is still going to be a summoner, so if you enjoy creating minions that do the dirty work for you, then this is the ideal choice.
- Priest – Finally, the priest class comes back with the cleric and chanter sub options. Just like in the original, the former is going to be the main healer class, while the latter is geared more towards supporting their allies with buffs and doing a bit of damage as well.
It appears that there’s no restriction based on gender for these classes, as the customization screen offers a choice between two distinct body types. Keep in mind that the class previews are simply presets to demonstrate how they appear with their equipment equipped.
From what we’ve gathered, the game allows you ample flexibility to create a towering, muscular cleric or a temple knight with spindly limbs, if that’s your preference. There are no restrictions within the game that would prevent such a character creation.
With this new edition, there’s a significant leap in versatility compared to the initial one, which was quite restrictive in terms of customization. Now, you might find yourself engrossed for an entire day, fine-tuning details as you design your very first character using the adjustable settings.
So far, we’ve got a good idea of the customization possibilities for the game, but we don’t know the full extent yet because they’ve only given us a glimpse of the initial tabs. However, it seems like there will be a decent amount of depth to it.
