The long-awaited arrival of Nintendo Switch 2 is just around the corner, and it’s making waves even among those who aren’t planning an immediate upgrade. In preparation for its release, Nintendo is enhancing a multitude of games originally launched on the first Switch, with upgraded visuals and enhanced performance on the new platform. But, they’re not just stopping there – they’re also addressing long-standing fan requests by incorporating various fixes and improvements. For instance, a popular game in the Legend of Zelda series is receiving such updates, which should significantly improve the playing experience compared to its initial release.
In “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom,” which launched in 2024, gamers take control of the franchise’s famous princess for the first time in a primary series game. This release equipped Zelda with the distinctive skill to generate “Echoes” of enemies and items scattered across Hyrule. Last year, I wrote a review where I appreciated the Echo system as one of the more innovative features introduced to the 2D Zelda games, offering a bit more flexibility. However, sifting through numerous Echoes every time could be quite tedious. The latest update for the game now addresses this issue by introducing a new favorite list. Players can tag their frequently used Echoes with this feature, which becomes accessible once they have mastered 30 or more Echoes in the game.
Currently, enthusiasts are expressing their joy over this latest announcement, with some labeling it as a “potential game-changer.” It would have been a misstep for Nintendo to restrict such a significant quality-of-life upgrade to the Switch 2 alone, so it’s gratifying that all users can enjoy this feature instead of just those who upgrade. Users of the Switch 2 can anticipate enhanced graphics, but Nintendo has emphasized that they’ve “addressed various issues to ensure a smoother gaming experience” on both versions. The update does not mention any alterations to the game’s frame rate, so we’ll have to wait and see if there are any adjustments in that area.
If you’ve missed out on playing “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom” when it was originally available on the Nintendo Switch, this could be an excellent opportunity for you to discover what the game entails. Throughout the Nintendo Switch era, a number of Zelda games were introduced, such as “Breath of the Wild,” “Tears of the Kingdom,” and “Link’s Awakening.” Notably, all these games are also undergoing updates on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, with enhancements in performance and additional features.
As numerous games undergo significant upgrades, it’s intriguing to contemplate what titles gamers will opt for when Nintendo Switch 2 hits the market. While Mario Kart World undeniably stands out as a compelling reason to acquire the new system on launch day, those who aren’t as captivated by the rest of the initial lineup might find it beneficial to invest in games for the original Switch instead. It’s quite evident that a considerable amount of effort is being poured into enhancing these games!
