In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Ironheart, it appears that MIT doesn’t give Riri Williams the necessary resources, such as funding, materials, and freedom, to fully explore her abilities. Despite being a prodigious genius who has developed her own version of Arc Reactor technology and can reverse-engineer or invent armor similar to Iron Man’s, she is not given the autonomy to truly push the boundaries of her potential. This lack of resources and freedom leaves her feeling desperate, which eventually brings her into contact with Robbins.

It’s indisputable that Riri Williams aspires to be a hero, similar to Iron Man, Spider-Man, or other heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, given her circumstances as a young, Black woman with limited funds but abundant intelligence, her path to heroism is more challenging than theirs. For instance, Peter Parker, in his early days, scavenged for technology from dumpsters. Later, he teamed up with Tony Stark, who aided him in realizing his potential as a hero. Unlike Peter, Riri doesn’t have a benefactor like Tony Stark, which makes Parker Robbins’s proposition potentially attractive to her.

Conversely, the line from Parker Robbins in the Ironheart trailer seems to offer advice that goes against this, implying that one’s worth may not solely come from being self-reliant.

From the trailer of Ironheart, it appears that Robbins aspires for something beyond merely nurturing Riri Williams’ talents. Instead, there’s a hint of manipulation; he seems to want to exert control over her, using his aid as a tool to make her tolerate his questionable actions. Whether their bond deepens past a mere benefactor-beneficiary relationship is yet to be explored.

Although he’s not her mentor, Robbins might still try to exert influence over her in a manipulative way. Essentially, Robbins could argue that questionable actions are necessary for greatness, drawing a parallel with Tony Stark who manufactured weapons used by both sides of a conflict.

Initially, he was taken prisoner by a radical organization intending to coerce him into designing sophisticated weaponry for their use. This predicament, however, prompted him to invent both the Arc Reactor and the initial Iron Man suit. It’s essential to understand this; Tony Stark’s controversial actions and his company’s questionable deeds didn’t shape his iconic heroic identity. Instead, Iron Man emerged as a character aimed at rectifying those wrongdoings.

It’s evident that Parker Robbins is attempting to persuade Riri Williams into an action that could potentially be unlawful or ethically dubious in order to secure his assistance. Given her current circumstances and the losses she’s already endured, there’s a strong possibility she may consider his offer. At just 15 years old, Peter Parker was mentored by Tony Stark.

Riri Williams may be young, but she’s attending college and has accumulated real-life experiences. Regardless of any suggestions from Parker Robbins, she will act according to her heart and choose wisely, which is what true heroes do. In fact, whether donning the Ironheart armor or simply being Riri Williams herself, she undeniably embodies heroism.
