On a special occasion, the classic horror movie, “Friday the 13th” from 1980, is making a comeback for a one-time screening event. This iconic film is reaching its 45th anniversary, and for horror enthusiasts, it’s an opportunity to revisit one of the fundamental films in the slasher subcategory of horror (where masked killers usually pursue teenagers). The event is scheduled on Friday, June 13, at The Autry Museum in Los Angeles, and tickets are moving quickly.
Street Food Cinema is organizing an event that’s sponsored by Paramount Scares and Bloody Disgusting. The renowned hosts, James A. Janisse and Chelsea Rebecca from the Dead Meat YouTube channel, will be emceeing the event. They are popular for their horror content. This event won’t just be a movie screening of the classic slasher; it’ll also feature photo opportunities, swag giveaways, a spooky marketplace, a fully-stocked bar offering themed cocktails, and even a horror trivia game with prizes!
The classic horror movie “Friday the 13th,” penned by Victor Miller and directed by Sean S. Cunningham, significantly influenced the horror genre, particularly the slasher subgenre of the 80s. What set the original “Friday the 13th” apart was its simple yet enigmatic plotline that unveiled a chilling secret in the final act. The story revolves around a group of counselors who are pursued by what they believe is an urban legend – the ghost of a boy who drowned due to the carelessness of overly-partying counselors. However, the reality is much darker. In brief, the movie’s official plot summary reveals that the story unfolds at a summer camp where a vengeful spirit seeks retribution after being neglected by the very people responsible for his death.
A band of adolescent camp leaders endeavor to revive a deserted summer camp shrouded in a sorrowful history, only to be pursued by an enigmatic and unyielding slayer.
The initial “Friday the 13th” movie turned out to be incredibly profitable, earning roughly $60 million against a production budget of just $500,000. Despite receiving little praise from critics, it has maintained a strong position in the series with a commendable 67% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Camp Crystal Lake Opens Its Doors Again Soon and the Voorhees Family Is Out for Blood
Spoilers for 1980’s Friday the 13th ahead.
Following a protracted legal dispute, the Friday the 13th series has been resurrected. Much like Jason was resuscitated by lightning, the renowned horror franchise is poised for a second life under showrunner Brad Caleb Kane and production company A24 with the upcoming TV series Crystal Lake. This new development signifies the franchise’s official comeback in over fifteen years. The last time horror enthusiasts witnessed their beloved slasher killer preying on innocent victims was in the relatively overlooked reboot, 2009’s Friday the 13th.
The upcoming television show, airing on Peacock, is set to retrace events leading up to the original 1980 film’s narrative. This prequel will focus on the character of Pamela Voorhees, who was portrayed as the killer in the movie. Linda Cardellini has been cast for this role. The storyline will delve into the period when Pamela took revenge on the camp counselors, who she believed were responsible for her son Jason’s death by drowning, much like how the guides in question had acted towards her. Additionally, there are rumors that Jason may also appear in the series, mirroring the approach taken by the ‘Hannibal’ series with ‘The Silence of the Lambs’.
