Marvel’s Shocking Thor Ending Revealed – What Chris Hemsworth’s Hero Really Deserves!

According to recent whispers, it’s possible that Chris Hemsworth’s Thor might not make it through the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Avengers movies. However, Hemsworth’s recent reflections on his time as Thor have left fans feeling uneasy, a new comic storyline hints that if Thor perishes, it could lead to an optimal ending for his character’s journey.

Chris Hemsworth’s Thor has been a significant focal point within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), making his first appearance in the 2011 film Thor, and subsequently starring in nine MCU productions before taking on his role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Various whispers have hinted at Thor’s impending farewell from the MCU, stirred by Hemsworth’s own video marking 15 years of portraying the character, which suggests a possible conclusion to his storyline.

Some whispers hint at a climactic ending similar to Thor’s self-sacrifice in New Avengers Volume 3, Issue 32, or that Thor’s fifth series could follow Secret Wars, implying that the God of Thunder will survive future team-ups for a solo final act. An alternative storyline featuring Thor could lead to his demise, serving not only as an appropriate ending but also as a fitting culmination of Hemsworth’s portrayal of the character.

Thor’s Mortality Was Odin’s Secret Plan

Thor‘s relationship to his divinity has been central to his arc within the MCU. His introduction in Thor centered around Odin (Anthony Hopkins) stripping Thor of his godly powers, and enchanting his hammer Mjolnir to only be usable by the ‘worthy’.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor demonstrating his worthiness to wield Mjolnir has consistently played a significant role, not only for him but also for characters like Vision (in Avengers: Age of Ultron), Captain America (Avengers: Endgame), and Jane Foster (Thor: Love and Thunder). A recent comic storyline suggests that this moment might be more crucial to Thor’s future in the MCU than we initially understood.

In 2023, Al Ewing and artist Martin Coccolo began the “Immortal Thor” series, introducing new divine dangers rooted in Earth’s history. The “Immortal Thor” narrative expands on the lore of Those Who Sit Above In Shadow, a group of gods residing in the legendary realm Utgard (also known as the Land-of-True-Things, first mentioned in 1985’s Alpha Flight #1). These beings feed off repeated cycles of Ragnarok, death, and rebirth. Originally, Odin sent Thor to live among humans with the intention of breaking this continuous prophecy of fate.

In Immortal Thor, Thor’s Death Has A Surprising End

As a devoted admirer, I can share that the mighty Immortal Thor encapsulates the enigmatic pantheon of the ancient Gods from Utgard – Toranos, Kemur, Mejed, Nrgl, and the cunning Utgard-Loki. These deities, known as Elder Gods, are akin to Gaea, Oshtur, and the corrupted Set and Chthon. They survived the primordial conflicts among Earth’s first divine beings by seeking sanctuary in Utgard. In Immortal Thor #25, the epic battle between Thor and these Utgardian deities reaches its climax, culminating in a valiant end for Thor, our hero.

As Moon Knight and Thor: Love and Thunder enriched our knowledge about the gods within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduced the malevolent Chthon, we’re now poised to learn more about the Elder Gods directly. In Immortal Hulk #25 (July 2025), Thor meets his end, paving the way for Thor #1 where…

The Norse tales depict divine beings who supposedly roamed the earth, accomplishing remarkable feats for those who revered them. However, Asgard, their realm, does not exist and has never existed. These gods didn’t fly among us, didn’t stand alongside our heroes, didn’t battle for compassion or justice. It was merely a tale. No one is arriving to aid us. Yet within the city… a man stirs from sleep. This man bears a hammer.

It certainly feels like Marvel is preparing for a heroic, self-sacrificing demise of Thor, clashing with mighty gods, only for him to undergo an astonishing resurrection in a universe devoid of Asgard. What he’ll transform into next – mortal, a new form of immortal, it’s hard to tell just yet. But the path appears to be leading towards the Marvel Cinatic Universe ending Thor’s story with a unique rebirth, continuing his journey with hammer in hand. Because he’s worthy. And if the whispers are true and Thor is indeed meeting his end, perhaps his death won’t be the final chapter after all.
