Kevin Feige Teases Shock Twist for Marvel’s Fantastic Four Post-Credits Scene

Although it may seem at first glance like a film with minimal consequences, “Thunderbolts* ” is actually filled with action. The main team isn’t just tasked with defending New York City from The Void’s destruction, but they also grapple with their personal struggles. However, the most shocking revelation occurs near the movie’s end when Valentina Allegra de Fontaine publicly announces the formation of the New Avengers. Caught off guard by this news, the team swiftly adapts to their new roles, finally allowing their heroic aspects to surface after years of self-restraint. Remarkably, they prove ready for action when an enigmatic spaceship appears in Earth’s atmosphere in the “Thunderbolts*post-credits scene.

Yelena Belova and her team discover that the ship isn’t from their world, which makes them tense. To increase their bewilderment, they notice a logo on the vehicle – a simple ‘4’. This symbol doesn’t hold any significance for the New Avengers, but it does for the viewers. The end-credits scene suggests the debut of the Fantastic Four within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, yet Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige advises against rushing to judgments.

Following the hype of the post-credit scene subsiding, a sense of discontent emerged instead among fans. They felt that the events depicted in Thunderbolts contradicted the conclusion of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, suggesting that Galactus had destroyed the Earth which is home to Marvel’s First Family and sent them off into the multiverse in search of aid. However, Feige presents an alternate interpretation, one where the ship at the end of Thunderbolts might not be the same as the one featured in First Steps.

During an interview with Empire for its July 2025 magazine issue, Feige was questioned about the link between the two Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films from that year, particularly if the ship the Fantastic Four own in First Steps, named Excelsior, is part of the Sacred Timeline. “The name of their ship is Excelsior, and another Fantastic Four vessel will make an appearance in the MCU during a tag scene,” Feige explained. “However, I’m not certain if they are the same ship.

Since Thunderbolts doesn’t reveal the crew members of the spaceship, Feige can keep things mysterious for now. But when First Steps is released in July, he’ll have to disclose all his plans.

Marvel Studios Can’t Hide the Fantastic Four Forever

Although it’s possible that variations of the Fantastic Four might be heading for Earth in the comic series Thunderbolts, it seems more plausible that Marvel Studios isn’t quite ready to reveal the current condition of these heroes just yet. Given their upcoming battle against Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds, a formidable opponent, they need all the preparation they can get. The movie could contain significant character developments that will have a profound impact on the Fantastic Four. However, there’s good news on the horizon as the entire team is scheduled to appear in Avengers: Doomsday.

Given that we’re unaware of the specific outcomes of “First Steps”, it can be challenging to predict the exact role this group will play in the upcoming MCU ensemble film. However, since their longtime adversary from Marvel Comics, Doctor Doom, has been confirmed as the antagonist in “Doomsday”, it’s reasonable to expect that they won’t merely be observers throughout the storyline.

Initially, it was stated by the director of “First Steps”, Matt Shakman, that Doom is not included in the film, hinting that perhaps “Doomsday” might establish the rivalry instead. On the other hand, it appears as though Jake Schreier, director of “Thunderbolts”, may have believed at some point that the Fantastic Four were not a part of his project. However, with Marvel Studios, it’s become challenging to believe what they say these days.

This version attempts to simplify the original text by providing a clearer narrative structure and using more conversational language.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25, 2025.
