As a thrilled Nintendo enthusiast, it’s been an exhilarating day as countless gamers, myself included, have eagerly grabbed the brand new Nintendo Switch 2. However, my excitement took a turn for the worse when I found that the packaging of my console had unfortunately led to damage on its screen upon opening. Unfortunately, this issue was brought to light by IGN, with fellow gamer Oathan sharing their unfortunate predicament on social media.
Based on the article, it appears that the damage occurred when a GameStop cashier fastened the Switch 2 receipt directly onto its packaging using a staple. Unfortunately, this staple pierced the screen of the Switch 2 hidden inside the box. As reported by Oadhan, they are receiving a replacement console; however, due to supply shortages on the launch day, they will have to wait several months for additional stock to become available.
In the photos shared by Oadhan, it’s evident that a staple pin left a mark on both the Switch 2 packaging and the screen itself. However, it’s important to mention that the console appears to be functioning perfectly fine, and the staple seems to have only affected the outer layer of the display.
It appears that this problem isn’t exclusive to Oadhan, as it has been reported by other users as well. For instance, Reddit user Konflick encountered similar issues in the GameStop subreddit. Additionally, another user named Rudeboy__NYC also received a Switch 2 with comparable damage, and images of the display show signs of staple pin-related harm.
It’s important to note that while GameStop employees may bear some responsibility in this case, it’s also been suggested that Nintendo is partially at fault for not providing enough protection with the Switch 2 package. User AncientArgonaut even noted that placing the console with its screen against a wall inside the packaging might have exacerbated the issue.
They predicted this outcome – it seemed odd that Nintendo placed the screen facing upwards at the top of the box, with just thin cardboard for protection. In the near future, you’ll likely hear about some damaged screens. They’re vulnerable even when simply stacked during shipping.
Today, globally, the Nintendo Switch 2 has been unveiled. This new console retails at $449.99, and if you’re a fan of Mario Kart, there’s also a bundle priced at $499.99 that includes Mario Kart World. Alongside its release, the Switch 2 is coming with an array of games like Mario Kart World, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, and special editions of previously released Switch games.
According to President Shuntaro Furukawa’s recent statement in Nintendo’s latest financial report, they anticipate selling approximately 15 million units of the Switch 2. This estimate, he noted, is a more modest one due to the console’s increased price compared to its previous model.
For a short while, it seems we might face stock shortages. But whispers suggest that Nintendo may be collaborating with Samsung to manufacture additional chips for their console using Samsung’s advanced 8-nanometer manufacturing process. However, neither company has publicly acknowledged this partnership yet.
It was predictable that such an outcome would occur – it seems odd that Nintendo chose to position the screen vertically at the top of the box, with minimal cardboard protection, leaving it vulnerable when stacked together.

@gamestop Helo ! My switch 2 has staple holes in the screen. They stapled the receipt to the box at 1756 Forest Ave, Staten Island, NY 10303 and it damaged the screen. @NintendoAmerica
