The initial full-length trailer for an Earth-based Alien series has been released, giving viewers a sneak peek into various alien species and creatures. This upcoming TV show, titled Alien, is being developed by FX under the guidance of Noah Hawley (known for Fargo and Legion), promising to delve deeper into the intricate world-building of the acclaimed sci-fi horror franchise than ever before. The Alien series originated in 1979 with the initial film directed by Ridley Scott, who is serving as a producer on this new project. The cast includes Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, and others.
FX has unveiled its first full-length trailer for the series Alien: Earth, focusing on a spaceship crash landing in a metropolis and the individuals dispatched to scrutinize it. Although this series will delve into characters on Earth, including the ominous Weyland-Yutani conglomerate, it wouldn’t be the Alien saga without extraterrestrial beings. The trailer hints that the spaceship in question brought back “five unique species from the most remote regions of the cosmos.” Below, you can catch a glimpse of these five entities, offering us something to analyze. Check out the trailer here:
6. Xenomorph
It Wouldn’t Be Alien Without Them
The new trailer showcases an abundance of appearances by the Xenomorph, giving viewers a sneak peek at its design as envisioned by Noah Hawley. As with past Alien series installments such as Alien: Romulus, the Xenomorph often serves as the antagonist. However, in a more expansive narrative like this FX series, it’s logical for the original creature to take center stage.
There isn’t much new to discuss about the Xenomorph, given all that has been written, but fans are eagerly anticipating Noah Hawley’s fresh perspective. While some Alien enthusiasts have mixed feelings about Ridley Scott’s prequel films like Prometheus, it’s been announced that Hawley intends to disregard the prequel lore (as reported by Variety). This means the Xenomorph backstory might evolve with unique details and life cycle adaptations specifically for Alien: Earth in his version.
5. Facehugger
With A New Color Palette
In most Alien films, the Facehugger serves as a terrifying adversary during the second stage of the Xenomorph life cycle. Its mission is to implant a Chestburster, which in turn implies the continuation of the Xenomorph species. The upcoming film Alien: Earth, created by Noah Hawley, promises to delve into this unsettling concept of the Chestburster. Although they are frightening on their own, even a brief glimpse of a Facehugger in the new trailer is enough to excite long-time fans with anticipation for what’s to come.
In April, FX unveiled a teaser trailer for “Alien: Earth” called “Gestation,” which provided a comprehensive look at the Xenomorph’s life cycle. The production team used impressive sound effects and animation to create this video. We expected all the classic forms to appear in the series, but the brief peek at the facehugger revealed a fresh design. Facehuggers are usually shaded with beige or yellow tones, while this latest version has a red or pink hue instead. This could mean innovative updates for the famous creature, or simply a different artistic style.
4. Scorpion
A Scorpion Xenomorph Tease?
In the teaser for “Alien: Earth,” there’s a quick scene where a character peers at a scorpion. While it might seem ordinary, some viewers are speculating that it could hint at something extraordinary – perhaps the infamous Scorpion Alien from expanded “Alien” universe lore. In this alternate narrative, as depicted in comics and toys, the Scorpion Alien is characterized by its red color and a venomous stinger on its tail capable of paralyzing victims. This scorpion in the trailer has sparked intrigue among fans.
3. Jellyfish (T. Ocellus)
The Alien Franchise’s New Nightmare
In this latest sea creature presentation, viewers are given an extended view, capturing both a close-up of the being and a scene from a computer screen detailing ongoing research. Although the text is somewhat unclear, some information can still be discerned. The screen text reveals that the tentacles of this new jellyfish possess extraordinary power and are designed to scale and dislodge the eyes of other organisms. When repositioned in the eye socket, T. Ocellus takes control of the optical nerve pathway leading to the brain, effectively overriding the body’s neurotransmissions.
In my opinion, this jellyfish has an adorable Baby Yoda-esque charm, yet it’s clear that it will transform into a terrifying spectacle in the upcoming show. The goat in the trailer appears to be fitted with neural sensors, hinting at its role in evaluating the jellyfish’s capabilities. While face-huggers are already unsettling, T. Ocellus promises to elevate body horror to new heights as it clings onto a face and subsequently seizes control of its host. It bears some resemblance to Starro the Conqueror from DC Comics, but with an extra dose of Alien-style terror.
2. Synthetics/Hybrids
The Main Character Is A Human-Synthetic Hybrid
In the world of Alien, synthetic beings have been around for quite some time, dating back to Ridley Scott’s original film, with the shocking revelation about Sir Ian Holm’s character Ash, and more recently in Alien: Romulus with David Jonsson as Andy. As we delve into the timeline where Alien: Earth is set, synthetics are now widespread, with Timothy Olyphant’s Kirsh being the latest model among them. A good number of the cast in Alien: Earth will be synthetic or cyborg characters.
In the latest trailer, we see that this story uniquely presents Wendy, portrayed by Sydney Chandler, as a blend of human and synthetic life. Instead of being purely artificially intelligent, Wendy is essentially a human child’s mind in an adult robot’s body. This intriguing aspect of her character is expected to play a significant role in the series, given that she must grow up rapidly due to her circumstances. Chandler shared with Entertainment Weekly about portraying a child in an adult form, expressing, “Children are so genuine, and they haven’t been tainted by the world as much as adults. So they rely on their instincts and don’t hesitate.
1. Predator (Rumored)
The New Trailer Could Be Teasing A Predator Crossover
In previous films, both Alien and Predator have shared screen time, and the recent trailer for Predator: Badlands hints at further connections. This has left viewers pondering a line in Alien: Earth where a character refers to one of the new aliens as “predatory.” While it’s known that Xenomorphs and possibly other creatures on the show are predators, the possibility of this connection is too intriguing to dismiss. Furthermore, the trailer for Alien: Earth also includes a sound reminiscent of the clicking noise from Predator, which adds fuel to these speculations.
In the 2004 film titled “Alien vs. Predator,” the characters Alien and Predator teamed up. Although this movie received mixed reviews, it was a commercial success, leading to a sequel. This combination has also been seen in comic books. Ridley Scott, who created the original Alien franchise, showed little interest in the “Alien vs. Predator” movies and had no plans to include this crossover in his work. However, Scott has recently confirmed that he’s finished with the Alien franchise (as reported by Variety). This could potentially mean that the rules set by “Alien: Earth” might be flexible, although Scott remains involved as an executive producer.
