PS5’s Brilliant New State of Play Breaks Records for Sony

The latest State of Play, which aired just hours ago on 4th June, is already the most viewed ever.

At the moment of this writing, the broadcast has already surpassed both Horizon Forbidden West’s dedicated livestream and the 2022 Summer State of Play, boasting a view count of 2.8 million. It will certainly be intriguing to observe whether Ghost of Yotei’s upcoming broadcast can outperform these numbers.

It’s important to note that this livestream doesn’t hold the record as the most-watched PlayStation event; that distinction belongs to the manufacturer’s multiple PS5 unveilings and the PS Shows from 2021 and 2023.

Regarding the scale of State of Plays, this one is the most significant. It’s noteworthy that the prominence of its branding has been gradually increasing with each new edition. Intriguingly, the fourth largest State of Play occurred in February earlier this year, making it one of the top five, and astonishingly, two of these top five events happened in 2025 alone.

Compare this: The recent State of Play event garnered significantly more views within just 24 hours than the 2016 E3 press conference has managed in the last nine years.

It will be intriguing to discover if PS Showcases will continue to be used for console unveilings in the future, or if they’ll stick with the State of Play format for everything else. As we noted in our recent response, we believe they have finally grasped the essence of what was required with this year’s presentation.
