By most accounts, it’s not expected for some time, but director Ryan Coogler has hinted at potential cast members for it.
Ryan Coogler expressed his intentions to have Denzel Washington, a renowned actor, join an unannounced project during a recent interview on the “7AM in Brooklyn” podcast. Despite having collaborated with numerous gifted actors, Washington is someone Coogler has yet to direct. As he put it, “Denzel is essentially family now…I’ve been trying to work with him since the very beginning.” Coogler further stated that he considers Washington to be “the greatest living actor,” emphasizing the profound impact Washington has on our culture.
They’ve also discussed this topic in Washington. He initially brought it up as a possibility back in 2024. “I was taken aback when he brought it up,” Coogler humorously said on the podcast, “but it’s not as if it’s unfounded.”
Currently, Washington has announced that Black Panther 3 might be one of his final films before he decides to retire. He shared this during an interview on the Australian Today show, hinting at just a handful of projects left for him. Many of these were related to Shakespeare, reflecting the exceptional acting skills of such a talented artist like Washington.
He announced, “At 22, I performed Othello. Now at 70, I’m set to play Othello again. Following that, I have Hannibal on my schedule. Recently, I’ve been discussing a film project with Steve McQueen. Subsequently, Ryan Coogler is penning a role for me in the upcoming Black Panther movie. After that, I plan to take on Othello again. Following that, King Lear is next on my list. And finally, I’ll retire.
He continued, “My focus is on the directors for me. At this stage in my career, I’m all about collaborating with the finest talents. I’m not sure how many more movies I have left in me. It’s likely not a lot. What I truly desire is to try out new things.
Black Panther 3 Is Highly Anticipated
As a passionate advocate, I can confidently say that the groundbreaking debut of “Black Panther” undeniably left an indelible mark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), resonating culturally like no other. This cinematic masterpiece raked in an astounding $1.3 billion globally, setting a new record – the highest earnings ever for a film helmed by a Black director. Beyond the financial success, this monumental film catapulted Chadwick Boseman into stardom, making him a familiar face in countless households. The heartbreaking news of his passing sent shockwaves through the entire entertainment industry, leaving us all mourning the loss of such a remarkable talent.
I shed a few tears when I watched Black Panther. In fact, at that time, I was on Broadway for The Iceman Cometh, and I attended the premiere. I wasn’t fascinated by the red carpet and all that, so I went backstage instead. There, I met Chad and Ryan [Coogler]. We had a conversation, and then I took my seat to watch the movie. It felt like the baton had been passed. I was amazed, saying to myself, ‘These young men have taken over,’ you know. I didn’t exactly feel ‘relieved,’ but rather, I was incredibly proud of what they accomplished and where they were headed.
Black Panther 3 is likely to be an emotional experience as well.
Black Panther and its sequel are currently streaming on Disney+.
