Jason Biggs Details Getting Cocaine From Trash Can Amid Addiction

Jason Biggs is getting candid about a low moment.

The former star of “American Pie,” known for his honesty about his battle with addiction, just shared an experience from the depths of his struggle when he frequently fished drugs out of the trash bin.

Jason shared with Arielle Lorre during their conversation on her Well podcast (June 4 episode) that he’s had some wild tales to tell, akin to ‘shaking off dust from the floor.’ One of his most outrageous experiences involved him using cocaine alone at home, claiming it was his last dose.

He continued by explaining that his wife, Jenny Mullen, was peacefully sleeping upstairs, unaware that he was awake and using drugs. In an attempt to convince himself to retire for the night, he discarded the remaining cocaine in their trash bin.

15 minutes from now, once the effects of the last dose have subsided, Jason recalls that he will head to his trash can, retrieve it, and use some of its contents.

Later on, he chose to discard the remaining cocaine in a bin outside his home, thinking “I’m all set,” before heading back indoors with plans to consume some Ambien to aid his sleep.

Before popping the Ambien, he remarked, ‘Just one more time,’ then he stepped outside, scaled a trash can to retrieve a stash of cocaine, proceeded upstairs for another snort. He exclaimed, ‘What on earth am I up to? This is completely madness!’

On this occasion, the former star of “Orange Is The New Black”, who is father to Sid (11) and Lazlo (7) with Jenny, confessed that he drove along Sunset Boulevard to discard some cocaine in a nearby bin. Remarkably, he even admitted to placing the drug-filled bag within a coffee cup that still contained coffee residue. However, as he explained, once the effects of his final dose subsided, he found himself compelled to return to the trash can and retrieve the illicit substances once more.

He mentioned, “I had the chance to quickly empty the plastic pouch into the toilet, but I chose not to.” Instead, he continued, “It seemed like a permanent solution, but I wasn’t ready for that yet. I knew I would consume the contents of the bag as soon as I got it, but I was playing this mental game with myself. That moment was almost my absolute lowest point.

And at the time, the 47-year-old’s life was consumed by his addiction.

He clarified that for him, it was a persistent preoccupation about it. Every morning, his mind would jump straight to pondering, “What’s the first step I can take today? When will this occur? What tasks do I have now?

To be truthful, he structured his daily routine based on when he could use drugs. He also mentioned that it was draining and consumed a significant amount of his mental energy.

After being sober for over seven years now, Jason finds himself reflecting on his happiness and describes sobriety as liberating.

“There is a freedom,” he explained, “that comes with not having to do those things anymore.”

For more celebrities who have been candid about their sobriety journeys, keep reading.

Last October 2018, the actor famous for “American Pie” shared on Instagram that he had been sober for a whole year, expressing joy and motivation.

He initially attempted to become sober around five years back, as the burden of his addiction to alcohol and drugs grew unmanageable for him. As it turns out, quitting was more difficult than expected.

He went on to say, “After a few bumps along the way, I’ve successfully completed one year without alcohol. This achievement is something I hold dear among my life accomplishments. If you’re facing similar challenges, remember there’s always support available. Never let shame stand in your way. Together, we can overcome this.

Later in life, he looked back at his past, considering his battle with addiction and the great efforts he made to conceal his fight against it.

During a March 2024 episode of his wife Jenny Mollen’s “All the Fails” podcast, he shared that he was attending therapy and making progress, but moments later, he ended the therapy session on a positive note and decided to visit the liquor store. He purchased a bottle of vodka, consumed it, and then drove himself home as a means to numb his feelings and escape his current situation.

He mentioned, “I had everything planned perfectly. I made sure not to drink so much that I couldn’t talk to you. In fact, I kept refilling the bottles at the bar frequently.

The two-time champion of the FIFA Women’s World Cup has openly discussed her abuse of Adderall as she dealt with injuries during her college soccer years.

In a 2025 episode of the “Question Everything with Danielle Robay” podcast, she admitted that she had developed an intense addiction to Adderall and had been abusing it excessively. She would often take it constantly, neglecting sleep for extended periods. She described her behavior as reckless, fearing she might induce a heart attack. She confessed to crushing and snorting the drug, acknowledging that this habit was causing significant problems in her life.

However, in the midst of her struggle, her college coach Anson Dorrance was there to support her.

She clarified that it had grown incredibly dark, necessitating significant changes, to which Anson often asked her to read books. One book she began reading was titled “Man’s Search for Meaning” and it focuses on the topic of suffering, offering ways to reframe it; this book significantly impacted her life.

The Valley star shared his decades-long battle with drugs in March 2025 after going to rehab.

During the March 4 episode of Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast, Jax confided that he struggles with addiction and has issues with substances, particularly cocaine. He admitted it isn’t easy for him to say this aloud.

He mentioned that he’s had periods of struggling with this issue, both in the past and present, since he was 23 years old. At certain points, he managed to avoid it, but at others, he found himself engaging in it quite intensely.

Jax has decided to stop consuming alcohol, stating that while he doesn’t believe he has a drinking problem per se, he finds it hard to use cocaine without also drinking. Consequently, he chose to quit both substances. Currently, he is 82-83 days free from either substance, which marks the longest period in his life he’s managed to remain abstinent.

In 2022, the actor who played Spider-Man in “No Way Home” decided to quit drinking alcohol because he felt trapped by it. As he shared on the “On Purpose with Jay Shetty” podcast, he acknowledges his addiction to alcohol without hesitation. He believes that anyone who drinks a beer every day may have a developing issue with alcohol.

Then, you’d arrive at a point where you might think, “Wow, I wish I hadn’t had that final drink,” the actor went on. The next morning, you find yourself with a pounding headache.

After adopting the new lifestyle, Holland observed that he’s been experiencing improved sleep quality and finding it easier to manage issues.

He revealed, “Issues that used to upset me significantly on the set, I can now handle more easily.” He added, “My mental focus was sharper than ever. I felt more vibrant and energetic.

In a different wording, the main character from “Hunt for Red October” seldom discusses his long-standing struggle with sobriety, a battle he’s been fighting for nearly four decades.

He mentioned that the topic doesn’t come up frequently in conversations, but he does bring it up occasionally when it seems appropriate. As of May 2024, he has been sober for 39 years, having achieved sobriety on February 23, 1985.

After relocating from New York City to Los Angeles in 1983, Alec shared his experience by saying, “For two years straight, I faced a blazing issue each day. It felt like I inhaled cocaine from here to Saturn. We’d bring it home with us. Essentially, cocaine was as common as coffee at the time; everyone seemed to be using it throughout the day.

And after quitting the drug, he soon turned to alcohol—only to also quit that dependency.

Today, he relies on the city around him.

He mentioned that New York has a calming effect on him, as his home city. “I find myself strolling around and discovering things about it that I’ve never noticed before,” he explained. “I might gaze at a building and exclaim, ‘I never realized that about that structure, those doors.’ I spend time with friends over meals and coffee.

In April 2024, the actress who starred in The Princess Diaries announced that she has been over five years without alcohol consumption. In her interview with The New York Times, she expressed that this achievement is significant for her by saying, “It’s a notable moment for me.

Her thoughts were straightforward, as she put it, “I instinctively knew it wasn’t suitable for me.” She further explained, “It felt overly harsh to say ‘Nothing at all,’ but ‘Nothing at all.’ If you have an allergy or experience a severe reaction to something, you don’t dispute it. So I stopped disputing it.

I’m glad I went with that choice, and here’s my take on it: “I find myself in a much improved situation since then, and for me, dwelling on the past is not something I enjoy or find beneficial.

During her acceptance speech for the 2018 Woman of the Year Award at the Peggy Albrecht Friendly House, a shelter assisting women in overcoming addiction to substances and alcohol, Moore discussed the self-damaging trajectory that almost sabotaged her professional journey.

Reflecting on my life, I believe there are pivotal moments that significantly influence our identity and future, and during the early stages of my career, I found myself on a self-destructive path that was eroding me from within. No matter what accomplishments I achieved, I always felt inadequate. My worth was nonexistent to me, leading me down a dangerous and self-destructive path that rapidly pushed me towards a critical juncture. It wasn’t immediately clear why this was happening, but looking back now, it seems like some higher power or guidance may have been at play.

In 2012, Moore expressed gratitude towards two individuals whom she barely knew for giving her a sort of ultimatum to change her life’s trajectory. She playfully said, “Unless I was deceased, I had to show up,” emphasizing that she received an opportunity to alter the path of her life before it fell apart completely.

Moore pointed out that they noticed aspects of him he wasn’t aware of himself. He expressed his gratitude for this insight, stating that without it, the faith they had in him, he wouldn’t be where he is now.

In 2022, Cyrus disclosed that she’s been recovering from her Xanax addiction since 2020. She explained to Rolling Stone, “Xanax provided a structure I desperately needed during times when I was lacking it, as I didn’t want to be aimlessly wandering in my thoughts.” She added, “It gave me optimism.

The singer remarked, “When I believed I could momentarily mute the world and dull the ache, it ended.

She mentioned that her friends at one point seemed to tacitly approve of her drug abuse, and it turned into a deep, endless abyss for her. However, during the pandemic, Cyrus acknowledged facing difficulties and feeling emotionally detached. “I found myself frequently dozing off,” she reminisced, “and struggling to stay awake or keep my eyes open because I was so deeply immersed in it.

She eventually sought help and noted that “it took some time to get on my own two feet.”

16 years had passed since the former star of “Parenthood” had been abstaining from alcohol, but in 2020, following a motorcycle accident, they resumed using Vicodin.

Over the past eight weeks or so, he mentioned during his Armchair Expert podcast, “I’ve been using these medications quite a bit throughout the day, and it’s permitted due to my prescription. However, I’m also taking additional doses beyond what the prescription specifies.

As a person deeply committed, I confess that this situation is not only dislikable but also detrimental. I find myself deceiving others, and the realization that I must break free from it is crystal clear. However, my tolerance for this substance is escalating at an alarming rate, and currently, I’m consuming around eight 30-milligram doses a day – a quantity that I acknowledge will lead to a harsh withdrawal. This knowledge has filled me with fear, and the loneliness I feel is overwhelming. The burden of this secret is immense.

Back in 2018, the actress who is famous for Halloween opened up about her decade-long struggle with opiate addiction that started in the late ’80s following a minor cosmetic surgery to address her family’s inherited puffy eyes. This prescription drug altered the course of her life significantly. “I had a ten-year spree, involving theft and deception,” she confessed to People magazine. “Nobody knew. Nobody did.

In the summer of 1998, when Curtis’s sister visited and brought painkillers prescribed for a rib injury, she reached her lowest point. “I knew she had them in our guest room closet,” she shared with the publication, tears welling up as she recalled the memory. “I essentially took all her opiates. As she was leaving, I knew she would pack her suitcase and notice her pills were missing. I knew I had to confess to her what I’d done, so I wrote her a note and left it on her suitcase. When I returned home that day, she hugged me, expressing love and concern for me, and refusing to watch me self-destruct.

On February 3rd, 1999, I stepped into my first gathering – a day that marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life. That very same day, I confided in my filmmaker husband, Christopher Guest, about my internal struggle. His disbelief was palpable, as he’d never suspected a thing. But from that moment onward, I made a commitment to sobriety and have remained steadfast ever since.

In 2021, Barrymore, who has previously sought treatment for alcohol and substance abuse, announced a significant achievement in her recovery. During an appearance on CBS Mornings, she declared, “For the first time in a long while, I’m proud to say that it’s been two and a half years since my last drink of alcohol.” She further explained, “I have come to understand that abstinence from alcohol is not something that benefits me in my life.

She commented, “It’s quite amusing. When we expose our identities, our deepest truths, and the accomplishments we’ve labored over, it feels incredibly freeing and exposed simultaneously.

Later on, Barrymore clarified to the Los Angeles Times that she avoids using the term “sober” as she doesn’t wish to be perceived as a “perfectly pious Puritan.

2023 found me continually pondering, ‘I’ll conquer this challenge, I’ll find a solution.’ Yet, as the year unfolded, it dawned on me: ‘I’ve never truly mastered this task, and perhaps it’s not meant for me to do so.’

During the 2000s, the actor from “A Star Is Born” battled a cocaine dependency. Eventually, his friend Will Arnett intervened and addressed his questionable conduct.

During his 2022 interview on the Smartless podcast, Cooper shared that this was the moment he first recognized he had an issue with substance abuse, an experience he would never forget.

As a devoted follower, I can attest that Arnett played a pivotal role in my journey towards sobriety. He bravely initiated a challenging discussion with me, which ultimately led me to contemplate and make the choice to transform my life.

The actor from Fight Club battled alcohol addiction for many years before Cooper assisted him in achieving sobriety. He expressed his gratitude to the audience at the 2020 National Board of Review Annual Awards when Cooper presented him with an award, stating, “I have been happier every day since then, thanks to this man.

In September 2023, the former star of Cruel Intentions posted on Instagram that it had been the longest period, since adolescence, during which he didn’t have any form of nicotine or cannabis in his body (along with other substances).

He expressed gratitude for the liberation he experiences after overcoming addictions and freeing himself from substance dependence. He further mentioned that being sober brings a sense of clarity, a deep connection with his spirit, and overall, it simply feels great.

In 2018, while touring and openly commemorating six years without alcohol, the singer surprised her followers by releasing the candid song “Sober.” This revelatory track disclosed that she had unfortunately slipped back into old habits.

Mom, I truly apologize for losing control again / Dad, please find it in your heart to forgive me for the spilled drinks on the floor / To those who have always stood by me, I’m truly sorry, I’ve lost my sobriety once more.

A month later, Lovato was hospitalized for a near-fatal overdose.

Two weeks ago, she posted on Instagram, “I’ve consistently been open about my struggle with addiction.” What I’ve realized is that this condition doesn’t vanish or weakens over time. Instead, it’s an ongoing battle I’m still working hard to conquer… Right now, I require time to recover and prioritize my sobriety. The affection you’ve all shown me will forever be etched in my memory, and I eagerly anticipate the moment when I can share that I have triumphantly overcome this challenge. I will persistently keep up the fight.

2018 marked a period where I grappled with my compulsions towards sex and alcohol. “My urges to indulge in these habits are ever-shifting. They move around. In my younger years, I can confidently say that I struggled with some form of sexual addiction, yes, believing that all my problems could be solved through intimacy,” I shared, then went on to discuss the moment I acknowledged my escalating drinking issue.

She recounted a moment when she found herself at a particularly low point, alone in the house with two empty bottles of wine and reaching for a third. It struck her then, “Wait a minute. Here you are, all by yourself, guzzling down your third bottle of wine? You might have an issue to address.

She shared, “I quit abruptly, and that’s typically how I handle things. You see, I have a tendency to immerse myself deeply in activities, so I need to keep a close eye on myself to avoid becoming overly engrossed. It’s not the action itself that matters, but the motivation behind it. The behavior connected to it. If you enjoy having a lot of sex, that’s fine, but ask yourself why you’re doing it so much. That’s what you should examine.

One of the Backstreet Boys bandmates experimented with drugs for the first time prior to filming the music video for “The Call” in 2000. In a later interview with Good Morning America, he admitted that he was extremely energetic during the shoot due to substance use. He achieved sobriety in 2021 and experienced numerous positive outcomes within a year, such as shedding 32 pounds over seven months by eliminating alcohol and fast food from his diet.

In an interview with Today in September 2022, he stated that alcohol consumption led to a rise in his weight, and it additionally had a detrimental impact on his mental wellbeing.

Following Mac Miller’s untimely demise, the rapper formerly known as Shad Moss openly shared his past struggle with codeine addiction on Twitter. He cautioned his followers, particularly the younger generation, against the dangers of such substances, stating:

“To young people – Stop with these foolish drugs.” He then revealed his personal struggles, admitting that during the creation of the album ‘FACE OFF’ with Omarion, he was addicted to lean (codeine syrup) every day. He confessed that when viewers saw him on BET arguing with Torae, he was under the influence of lean. His attitude and relationship with fans and family deteriorated as a result.

He admitted that while touring with Chris Brown, he consumed at least 7 doses of lean daily, hidden in 4’s (a common reference to codeine syrup). He described his addiction as lasting until their Cincinnati show, where he passed out backstage and woke up in the hospital, experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

He recounted the intense pain he felt during this period, describing it as never experienced before. He was compelled to wear multiple hoodies because he was always cold. He missed shows in Chicago and Baltimore due to his addiction and sickness.

He warned that such behavior is not cool and emphasized the importance of being a good child, striving to be the best version of oneself. He vowed to become more vocal about the issue, advocating for the preservation of young lives. He urged parents to closely monitor their children and educate them about the dangers of these substances, expressing his wish for all to live.

He concluded by urging his followers to smarten up, tighten up, and be aware that they cannot afford to lose any more young lives. He expressed his love for all his fans, particularly the young artists and kids around the world, encouraging them to break free from trends and end the cycle of drug abuse. Peace.

2018 was a year of raw truth-telling for me, as I released both my fourth album “No Shame” and the memoir “My Thoughts Exactly.” During this time, I openly discussed my struggle with addiction, revealing that I had become dangerously dependent on cocaine and alcohol, often reaching a state of “parasitic drunkenness.” It was an intervention by Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin that finally came after an unfortunate incident at Kate Hudson’s Halloween party. In the heat of the celebration, I unintentionally headbutted Orlando Bloom, causing me to faint.

As a passionate individual seeking fulfillment, I recounted to The Guardian, “I found myself in a state of emptiness and longing. One particular morning during those challenging times, a thought crossed my mind: ‘Perhaps I should turn to heroin, as nothing else seems capable of reaching or satisfying me.’

In the 1980s, an actor from the movie “The Parent Trap” struggled with a cocaine addiction that eventually led him to rehabilitation in 1990. During an interview on “Today,” he shared that his upbringing in the ’60s and ’70s was during a time when there was a much more lenient perspective towards drug use.

2018 saw me openly confessing that my daily routine during the ’80s included the use of cocaine – a habit that was as commonplace for me as going to the movies. In those dark hours, I’d often find myself pleading with the universe, begging it to take this addiction from me and promising never to return to it, as I had barely an hour before I needed to be at work. Yet come 4 o’clock in the afternoon, the same voice would echo within me, ‘It’s not so bad.'” (Lifestyle Expert)

He shared an intense personal moment where he felt like he was either facing death or losing everything valuable to him, which he referred to as a “white light experience.” Overwhelmed by this revelation, he needed to sit down with his then-fiancée, Meg Ryan, and discuss the situation. From there, he decided it was time to seek help. This marked the end of his tumultuous relationship with cocaine.

Following an incident at a Newport Beach hotel where Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte attempted to force open his own room door, it was decided in 2018 that he would seek treatment for alcohol addiction. According to his representative, Lochte has struggled with this addiction for quite some time and unfortunately, the pattern has become harmful. He has accepted that professional help is necessary to address his issue and immediate assistance will be sought.

As a lifestyle expert, I understand that overcoming this health challenge is crucial for me to ensure I make wise choices in the future, to be the best partner and parent I can possibly be, and if I aspire to regain my former glory in the pool at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics – my fifth time competing.

As a devoted devotee, I acknowledge that it’s generally advised not to quit drinking for someone else. Yet, my bond with the remarkable Melanie Lynskey played an instrumental role in my decision to abstain from alcohol.

During his interview on “The Drew Barrymore Show” in March 2023, he expressed, “At some stage, I realized how exceptional she was and believed she would be perfect for someone truly deserving. However, I didn’t think I was that worthy individual; I felt a bit too unstable.

However, as Ritter noted to TopMob News, he now sees that sobriety is ultimately a personal choice.

In the beginning stages of our relationship, I found it simpler to claim that my actions were driven by her well-being, as at that moment, I didn’t see much value in myself. My concern for causing her pain surpassed my own self-inflicted harm. Consequently, it was easier then for me to express, “I’m doing this for her.” Now, however, I am dedicating these actions to my own personal growth and wellbeing.

For almost a decade now, the nation’s famous singer has managed to stay sober, but it was a challenging journey to achieve this milestone. His struggle with alcohol and painkillers started shortly after he graduated from high school and persisted even as his career flourished. He always carried a black leather laptop bag containing bottles of Jagermeister or vodka, which he kept within easy reach at all times, as he confessed in an earlier interview with People. He admitted that every hour and a half to two hours, it was time for a few good swigs from the bottle. And every three to four hours, it was time for a couple of pills.

As he acknowledged, it did not hinder his triumphs in any way. He was not fumbling about, but rather thriving – producing more music during that period than what he creates today. That’s what made it terrifying for him.

Towards the end of 2011, he was admitted to the hospital due to pancreatitis, and doctors warned him that if he continued drinking, he might not live to see his next birthday. However, he persisted in delaying any changes and attempted to reduce his consumption independently, such as promising himself he would only take two pills a day or limit his drinking from the bottle and mark it accordingly. This strategy worked for a few days, but then someone would throw a party.

Eventually, he recognized his need for assistance and admitted himself into rehab on December 18, 2011. “I reached a point where I knew I needed help,” Gilbert explained. “It angered me beyond measure and brought immense shame upon me. I am a person of strong will, but this was the one thing in my life that proved too difficult for me to conquer alone.
