Fervent PlayStation enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating a comeback of the PS3’s Infamous series after recent developments, but at this point, it appears more like a dream than a reality. It’s been 11 years since PlayStation fans last received an installment in the Infamous series. In 2014, they were given Infamous First Light, a standalone expansion of Infamous Second Son, which also served as a prequel. Since then, nothing new has surfaced. Interestingly, Sucker Punch Productions, the studio behind the series, has shifted their focus to Ghost of Tsushima and now Ghost of Yotei. When Yotei is released later this year, one wonders what Sucker Punch will tackle next. Some PlayStation fans, however, are hopeful that Sucker Punch and Sony will rekindle the Infamous series.
Lately, Infamous Second Son was taken off both PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers, which seems peculiar since it’s a Sony production. One might expect that a game like this would be free to keep on these services. However, it’s worth noting that the game, initially released for PS4 11 years ago, is not even accessible on PS5, suggesting low recent sales. But still, it was removed from PS Plus.
Apart from finding this situation intriguing, it’s worth noting a pattern that’s been observed. For instance, Horizon Zero Dawn was taken off PS Plus prior to the announcement of its remastered version. This has fueled some curiosity among PlayStation enthusiasts: Could Sony be planning to unveil an Infamous Second Son remaster for PS5? That’s the theory that’s been buzzing around in the community.
Hey there! If you’re new to the Infamous universe, let me fill you in. Back in 2009, I was first introduced to this action-adventure game series on PS3 with Infamous. A year later, we got Infamous 2, also for the PS3. Then in 2013, just a few months after PS4 hit the market, I found myself exploring the world of Infamous: Second Son on that console. Metacritic scored these games at 85, 83, and 80 respectively, and they all did well sales-wise, though they didn’t quite set the gaming world ablaze, as you might notice from its current inactive state.
It seems that Infamous may be making a comeback, more likely through a remastered version or a compilation release instead of a completely new game. However, if Ghost of Yotei underperforms compared to Ghost of Tsushima, Sony might consider resurrecting the franchise. At present, Infamous Second Son’s departure from PlayStation doesn’t necessarily mean this, but it’s something worth keeping an eye on.
