Damon’s Dark Secret Ruins Delena Forever

Damon Salvatore is adored by fans and considered their favorite character. His quick-witted humor and charisma are captivating traits, but his journey to become worthy of Elena’s love is what truly draws them in. However, a somber theory has frequently surfaced that alters my perspective on the older Salvatore brother and his connection with Elena. This theory posits that Damon, known for his vengeful tendencies, may have targeted Elena Gilbert’s family prior to ever meeting her, keeping this information hidden.

In the popular TV series “The Vampire Diaries“, the love triangle between Damon, Stefan, and Elena was the subject of much debate among fans. Both Stelena (Stefan and Elena) and Delena (Damon and Elena) had their strong points, but one argument often made in favor of Delena was that Damon met Elena first, just minutes before the Wickery Bridge accident, which Stefan later saved her from. They shared a deep conversation about the kind of love Elena desired before she left the party she didn’t want to attend with her parents. However, this tender start to the Delena relationship is seen as the beginning of a sinister plot by some fans, according to a popular theory, as Damon was suspected to have been involved in a murder scheme at that point.

Damon Haunted the Whitmores Obsessively For Revenge

In the year 1953, Damon was apprehended by the Augustine Society and subjected to torment within their confines for several years. The society’s members utilized vampires like lab rats, performing experiments on them whenever they desired, including invasive procedures. They consistently injected Damon and his friend Enzo with various concoctions of chemicals and supposed cures over a prolonged period.

In an effort to break free, the duo devised a daring escape plan. Knowing that his own blood would enhance his strength, Damon planned to use both their scant amount of blood for this purpose. They attempted to execute their plan during one of the Augustine Society’s meetings; however, unforeseen circumstances arose when a fire erupted, trapping Enzo within a cage.

Damon managed to escape from the chaos, but he couldn’t abandon his friend in good conscience, so he made the difficult choice to prioritize his own survival, leaving Enzo behind. Tragically, Damon assumed that Enzo had perished as a result of the fire. This heartbreaking event prompted Damon to devise an intricate vengeance scheme.

Despite initially getting along well with others, Damon had a deep-seated grudge against the Whitmore family. Whenever they wronged him, his response was far from tolerant. In retaliation, he placed what he believed to be a curse on them, which led to the death of most members of their family every few years, leaving only one survivor. This individual would then rebuild the family lineage, and the cycle would repeat itself. Damon’s unwavering determination to destroy the Whitmore family was unsettling, especially as his storyline began in Mystic Falls during The Vampire Diaries. Although his anger towards the Whitmores seemed justified, it appeared unfair when he brought misery upon innocent people with no connection to his past hurts. This pattern of behavior has fueled speculation about Damon’s true intentions regarding the Gilbert family, a theory that gained traction, especially since he encountered Elena just moments before the fateful Wickery Bridge car accident.

There Is a Theory That He Did This With The Gilberts As Well

Reading this specific revelation made me question the entire series. It revealed that Damon Whitmore’s revenge plot was linked to Grayson Gilbert, who was deeply involved with Augustine. This discovery left Elena and the Mystic Falls group stunned as they realized her father could be so closely tied to the cruel experiments conducted on vampires. However, it’s plausible that Damon had already sought retribution against the Gilberts, a fact Elena was unaware of. Not only was Damon upset about his own treatment, but he also believed Enzo had been killed at the Augustine Society.

It’s quite plausible that when Damon initially visited Mystic Falls and met Elena for the first time, it was also the moment he decided to affect the Gilbert family with some sort of “curse.” Throughout Season 6, there were strong hints that Damon could have been responsible for the accident on Wickery Bridge where Elena, Miranda, and Grayson fell into the river, leaving Elena an orphan. Although Liz Forbes concluded her investigation and Damon maintained his innocence regarding the accident, I remain uncertain about the full truth in this matter.

Instead of just wanting to kill the Gilberts, Damon might have considered leaving one alive so he could continue his vengeance against them repeatedly. Smart as he was, the older Salvatore would have realized that Stefan was already in town and protecting Elena. Knowing that Stefan wouldn’t be able to resist saving Elena, Damon may have orchestrated the fatal accident to kill the Gilberts’ parents, confident that Stefan would keep the spare Gilbert for him.

Currently, Damon didn’t feel romantic affection for Elena and held no regard for her whatsoever. Known for his impulsive nature, Damon was particularly cruel during this phase of his life. His actions, including carrying out his plans despite encountering Elena who resembled Katherine, were driven by death and chaos. If this assumption is correct, it would significantly alter the narrative of the show, particularly the relationship between Damon and Elena.

This Theory Ruins Delena In More Than One Way

If it turns out that Damon really is the one who caused the deaths of Grayson and Miranda Gilbert, this revelation would be irreversible. It implies that the man whom Elena deeply loved and considered her soulmate played a role in the death of her parents – a fact she would likely never forgive him for. Fans believe that Damon’s denial of these allegations was merely an attempt to safeguard his relationship with Elena, as he knew she wouldn’t accept this betrayal. By this point, Damon had already caused harm to members of Elena’s family and even her herself – breaking Jeremy’s neck and forcing her to drink his blood against her will. This early version of Damon from “TVD” was not above doing anything wrong.

This moment when this dismal theory becomes plausible is when it begins to undermine and disappoint me concerning the Delena relationship, which many fans cherished. Instead of reinforcing and deepening Damon and Elena’s connection, as intended, it creates a dark cloud over their initial encounter. You see, Elena believed she first met Stefan Salvatore, but it was actually Damon she encountered while waiting on the street. Unfortunately, their heartfelt conversation about love and life loses its charm when I consider that Damon might have been in Mystic Falls that night with the intent to harm the Gilberts. This theory raises the possibility that he was merely using Elena to gather information about her parents at the time. Such a revelation undermines the very core of this popular relationship from TVD, as it suggests their bond may have been built on deception. Even if Damon develops genuine feelings for Elena later in the series, his potential involvement in the Gilberts’ accident cannot be erased, tainting their entire relationship with lies.
