Resident Evil 9 Announced

The ninth installment of the Resident Evil series, titled simply “Resident Evil 9,” is confirmed to be in development, promising to re-immersse players into the haunting landscape of Raccoon City. Over the years, the Resident Evil franchise has evolved significantly from its early days as a highly immersive survival horror game set in the ’90s. The last two games have offered an immersive first-person horror experience, albeit with contrasting tones.

Resident Evil 7, in a way, served as a refreshing take on the series, maintaining minimal ties to the broader Resident Evil universe until Chris Redfield made a cameo at the game’s conclusion. The survival horror elements were emphasized more prominently, drawing inspiration from games such as Outlast and PT for its terrifying moments.

Contrasting with its predecessor, Resident Evil 8 was packed with more action. Despite this, it maintained a strong horror element, even introducing new perils such as vampires and werewolves. While Resident Evil is traditionally associated with zombies, these two games deviated significantly from the undead theme. For years, there have been whispers about Resident Evil 9, and now Capcom is officially disclosing it.

The much-anticipated ninth installment of Resident Evil, titled “Resident Evil Requiem,” has been confirmed and is set for release in 2026. This exciting news was shared during the PlayStation State of Play, putting to rest speculations about Leon Kennedy returning as a playable character. Since his last appearance (excluding remakes) in Resident Evil 6, which was more than a decade ago, fans have eagerly awaited his return. However, the protagonist of the last two games, Ethan Winters, met a sad end at the conclusion of Resident Evil 8. Interestingly, Chris Redfield was playable in both games, featuring in both DLC and the main story for “Village.” This time around, it seems we’ll be controlling what appears to be Alyssa Ashcroft’s daughter.

There are whispers that Resident Evil 9 could mark the end of this trilogy and possibly the main numbered series of the franchise. It’s uncertain what lies ahead for Resident Evil after more remakes, but it looks like Resident Evil 9 might be a massive success and provide fans with the survival horror game they’ve been eagerly anticipating.
