The Summer Game Fest showcased numerous unveilings and announcements from prominent game developers. Although the trailer for Resident Evil Requiem garnered the most attention, RGG Studios, known for Like a Dragon/Yakuza, revealed their upcoming game’s official title during the event. Known as Project Century when it was initially announced at The Game Awards last year, the team is now referring to this game as Stranger Than Heaven.
In the trailer released (feel free to rewind if you missed it), we got our initial glimpse at various aspects of the upcoming game “Stranger Than Heaven,” and also learned its placement in the timeline. This production from RGG is set in the year 1943. Keen observers will recall that the game was previously hinted at as Project Century, a setting for which was 1915. This suggests that RGG may be exploring different time periods with “Stranger Than Heaven.
Fans will recall the initial preview loaded with action, and this latest trailer has a somber feel similar to the Judgment series. The protagonist appears to rely more on detective work than physical combat to tackle issues. However, given it’s an RGG game, expect him to engage in fights when necessary. Unlike the recent Yakuza-like Dragon games, this one leans heavily into street brawling, as demonstrated halfway through the trailer.
The unspoken question about the game “Stranger Than Heaven” is its unusual temporal progression. RGG has been fairly cryptic with their latest trailer, leaving us guessing. Could there be another trailer released in the coming months, setting the game in either 1965 or 1888? Given the title “Project Century,” it’s improbable we’re venturing too far into the future, but only time will tell for certain.
It’s likely that there will be at least one more trailer for “Stranger Than Heaven”. The current one doesn’t provide any release date or platform details, but given RGG’s history of prompt releases, we might anticipate a possible early next year launch. However, this is merely speculation and should be taken with a large dose of skepticism.
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has just unveiled the title for their latest project – “Stranger Than Heaven.” The trailer for this intriguing new game can now be viewed online. Join the conversation using #StrangerThanHeaven and #ProjectCentury!

As a passionate gamer, I can confidently say that Stranger Than Heaven from RGG Studio appears to be another masterpiece in the making. Over the past few years, this developer has been on a roll, churning out top-notch games at an astounding rate. From where I stand, it seems like Stranger Than Heaven will fill the void left by Judgment, which is a shrewd move from the studio.
If you haven’t been following all things related to RGG Studio, there was a dispute over contract terms with Takuya Kimura, who portrays Yagami in the Judgment series. This led some fans to assume the series might be coming to an end. However, the main developers at RGG have announced that they have plans to carry on with the series.
Although it’s not officially confirmed, Stranger Than Heaven seems to follow in the footsteps of Judgment. This could potentially include Kaito appearing within the narrative. However, with RGG yet to reveal more about Stranger Than Heaven, anything is still up in the air at this stage. We’ll simply have to keep an eye out for updates on the game.
