Sakamoto Days Has a Spinoff and You Can Pick It Up Soon

Viz Media recently revealed a variety of exciting new titles scheduled for release in Spring 2026. Among them are “Ichi the Witch” and “Bug Ego,” a manga by ONE, who is famous for his work on “One-Punch Man.” But what has fans particularly thrilled is that the spin-off of “Sakamoto Days,” titled “Sakamoto Holidays,” will finally see an English release next spring. This slice-of-life manga features the same characters as the main storyline, with Sakamoto taking on a different role: instead of battling assassins to protect his peaceful life, he solves neighborhood crimes in this new series.

In a deliberate change of pace, the spin-off, titled “Sakamoto Holidays,” delves into the day-to-day lives of the characters, away from their usual battles against formidable mercenaries and assassins. This engaging manga is the brainchild of Tetsu Okawa, a former assistant on “Sakamoto Days.” Interestingly, the concept for this spin-off originated from the main series’ author, Yuto Suzuki. “Sakamoto Holidays” made its debut in Shueisha’s Saikyo Jump magazine on July 4th, 2024. Viz Media, the North American publisher of the original “Sakamoto Days” manga, is also set to release Volume 18 on August 5th, 2025. The main series currently boasts 22 volumes in circulation within Japan.

Announcement: Spend some leisurely moments alongside Sakamoto as he tackles local crimes in this spin-off of Sakamoto Days! His efforts will transform the shopping district into the most tranquil and serene arcade in town. The first volume of Sakamoto Holidays, created by Tetsu Okawa with original ideas by Yuto Suzuki, is set to be released in Spring 2026.

What Makes the Sakamoto Universe Great?

In a whirlwind of enthusiasm, let me share my take on the captivating anime, Sakamoto Days. This series left both fans and critics in awe with its side-splitting humor and endearing protagonists. The story revolves around an amiable middle-aged man with a plump physique, who was covertly one of the top hitmen in the industry before hanging up his guns for good. Now, sporting a Dad bod and responsible for a lively young girl, he finds himself at the convenience store counter, squaring off against other assassins and hitmen when it suits him best. To honor his vow to his wife, he swore off taking any more lives. However, keeping that promise becomes increasingly challenging as more adversaries emerge once they learn of his whereabouts. Fortunately for Sakamoto, he has an ally like his protege, Shin Asakura, who is always ready to safeguard his family at all costs.

In autumn 2024, Netflix debuted the first season of their streaming service’s anime adaptation for “Sakamoto Days,” quickly becoming one of their most-watched anime titles. Netflix regards “Sakamoto Days” as one of its flagship anime productions. Over the years, manga and anime have grown in popularity, captivating fans across various age groups and ranking among the most widely read and viewed content online. The future looks bright for anime, with 2025 predicted to be an exceptional year for the medium, as major players like Netflix, Viz Media, Amazon, and even Disney prepare to invest more significantly in this genre. Despite the vast amount of content available, the success of “Sakamoto Days” serves as proof that companies such as Netflix and Viz Media are making wise investments by pouring millions into manga and anime productions.
