No fresh gameplay reveals, no concrete release date announced. Just crickets chirping in the digital forest. Zero updates, zilch, nada!

As a researcher reflecting on the extended wait for Hollow Knight: Silksong, which was initially announced over six years ago in early 2019, one might expect the anticipation to have waned by now. However, during a recent presentation, showrunner Geoff Keighley added an extra layer of anticipation with a playful jab directed at hopeful fans, seemingly prolonging our longing for more information about this highly anticipated game.

The punchline occurred while Keighley introduced his comedy sketch during the unveiling trailer for Marvel Games’ future 2025 Deadpool VR game. This sketch included a fictitious letter, which was allegedly penned by Wade Wilson, as an element of the humor.

A significant factor contributing to the pain is that, as I mentioned earlier, there has been minimal progress on Silksong revealed over the past six years. There have essentially been no trailers or updates, and notably, the game was pushed back indefinitely in 2023. Although we heard it might be released within a 2025 window from a brief clip shown during Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct, Team Cherry has not provided any further information.

Despite the prolonged wait for Silksong due to its absence since 2017, when Hollow Knight was hailed as one of the best Metroidvania games, interest in the sequel has only intensified. Rather than dampening anticipation, this gap has fueled it, leaving fans eagerly hungry for any tidbits of information they can find. It’s a case similar to Elden Ring’s.

Over the past few days, the back end of Silksong’s Steam page has undergone multiple updates, fueling anticipation that a new trailer, release date, pre-orders, or even an unexpected debut during Summer Game Fest might be announced. Alas, our hopes have been dashed yet again.

Despite the bleakness and harshness of this world we live in, there remains a glimmer of optimism – a lone, radiant light: the 2025 Xbox Games Showcase. This event is set for Sunday, June 8 at 10:00am PT / 1:00 pm ET, and I’m definitely holding my breath in anticipation!

I wouldn’t venture to predict something as unpredictable as a Silksong release during the event, but personally, I think it’s quite likely that we will learn about the expected release date for Team Cherry’s eagerly awaited sequel.
