Despite the thrill of these fresh announcements, there’s an unique charm in stepping back from all the noise and enjoying some tranquility. Since 2020, we’ve been lucky to have the Wholesome Direct for just that purpose.

To mark the fifth anniversary of the Wholesome Direct, the team responsible for the event showcased games that were artistically innovative, inclusive, and emotionally profound. Some of these games even came from their publishing label, Wholesome Games Presents. Here’s a glance at all the exciting reveals during this year’s presentation:

2024 is set to bring an enchanting follow-up to the beloved sandbox city builder game I’ve been eagerly anticipating – Gourdlets Together! Milano’s Odd Job Collection

For the first time ever in Western markets, Implicit Conversions and XSEED Games are bringing Milano’s Odd Job Collection to us, initially created by Westone for the PlayStation 1 in Japan. In this game, you’ll follow an 11-year-old girl named Milano as she juggles a series of peculiar summer jobs. From delivering pizzas and baking cakes to milking flying cows, it seems that every girl needs some unconventional income sources for a fun-filled summer!

The eclectic assortment of games known as Milano’s Odd Job Collection is set to arrive on various platforms including Steam, GOG, and the Microsoft Store. Additionally, it will be available for play on Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and both the PlayStation 4 and 5.

In this game, you’ll find yourself arranging groups of peculiar characters, each with their quirks and pet peeves, in various settings such as theaters, clubs, or even outdoor events. The challenge lies in satisfying their unique preferences – for instance, a popcorn lover who hates sitting next to kids in theaters or a rhombus who dislikes dancing too close to the speaker at a club.

Is This Seat Taken? combines humor and relatability with an intriguing puzzle-solving experience that keeps me engaged. It’s both silly and amusing, making it an enjoyable addition to my collection of games!

MakeRoom

Individuals involved in game development or who have used the platform itch.io may have encountered Kenney’s asset packs at some point. These charming world-building elements are excellent for beginners in game development. Interestingly, now, even people without game development skills can enjoy Kenney’s incredibly cute assets through MakeRoom, published by Wholesome Games Presents. In MakeRoom, you can create your own dioramas and custom furniture pieces, or meet design challenges ranging from comfortable cat rooms to ominous hideaways for a vampire.
