In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man, or Peter Parker as we know him, has encountered some formidable adversaries. His initial solo film pits him against an individual in a mechanical avian suit, while his second movie tests him against Mysterio, whose deceitful illusions make life difficult for our friendly neighborhood hero. The situation becomes even more challenging in Spider-Man: No Way Home, as characters from different dimensions start invading the Sacred Timeline and causing chaos. Unbeknownst to Peter, he confronts his arch-enemy, Norman Osborn, who tragically takes Aunt May’s life, turning Peter’s world completely around. Despite winning the battle, Spider-Man’s journey is far from over.
As I sat there, the credits rolling on “No Way Home,” it became clear that Peter’s life had taken a drastic turn. Gone were the days when people recognized him and looked up to him. Yet, the city was still plagued by villains, forcing Spider-Man to take action once more. Even though I’ve burned through most of my contacts, there are still formidable foes waiting in the wings for the Wall-Crawler to confront.
1) Rhino
It’s understandable why Rhino hasn’t shown up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) so far, given that he’s been portrayed in live-action films like “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” and “Kraven the Hunter.” However, Aleksei Sytsevich remains a strong candidate for an MCU villain, considering his potential connection to the Hulk. This is due to him being exposed to gamma radiation, similar to what transforms the Hulk, who’s expected to appear in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
2) Jackal
Similar to many antagonists, Jackal harbors a deep grudge against Spider-Man. This resentment stems from the belief that Spider-Man is responsible for the death of Gwen Stacy, whom Jackal had strong feelings for. Consequently, he constructs a suit designed for combat with top-tier fighters. In due course, Jackal enhances his physical abilities by manipulating his own DNA, granting him superhuman strength and dexterity.
3) Hobgoblin
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Peter Parker’s longtime companion, Ned Leeds, has drifted apart from him, potentially paving the way for Ned to embody his comic book character, the Hobgoblin. Given that Ned already has certain supernatural powers, he could pose a significant danger to Spider-Man if he equips himself with a glider and amasses an arsenal of weaponry.
4) Spider-Slayers
In the Marvel Comics universe, the dislike of J. Jonah Jameson towards Spider-Man is profound and he even finances a team of mechanical assassins, known as the Spider-Slayers, whose purpose is to eliminate Spider-Man. Over time, these robots have evolved into increasingly lethal forms. With Peter Parker already wary due to Mysterio’s drones, the presence of the Spider-Slayers serves to further unsettle our hero.
5) Mister Negative
In the Insomniac Spider-Man games, Mister Negative has received significant attention, but he hasn’t appeared in live-action yet. Since the charity he manages in the games, F.E.A.S.T., is already established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it provides an easy avenue for his introduction. He could exploit this beloved location by turning it into a front for nefarious activities, which will provide Spider-Man (Peter Parker) with ample reason to take action and dismantle the entire operation.
6) Man-Wolf
In Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, Jameson’s son, John, is portrayed as a suitor for Mary Jane Watson. Contrary to the comics, he doesn’t take on the Man-Wolf persona. Instead, his character develops further in space exploration, where he stumbles upon a ruby that transforms him into a werewolf. Spider-Man encounters this transformed John a few times, and each encounter poses challenges due to John’s enhanced strength and agility.
7) Hammerhead
As a diehard gamer and fan, I can’t help but imagine how thrilling it would be to see Hammerhead, a formidable villain from Insomniac’s games, clash with the MCU’s Spider-Man. From his menacing mobster exterior, one might underestimate him, but don’t let that fool you. His skull is no ordinary bone; it’s forged from a robust steel alloy that can pack quite a punch. A head-on collision with Hammerhead could spell trouble for our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. To avoid the inevitable repercussions, Peter Parker would need to devise a cunning strategy to take down this tough adversary without getting too close.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31, 2026.
