In an exciting development, the long-awaited second and concluding season of BBC’s drama “The Gold” has arrived! Unlike its predecessor that showcased some scenes beyond the British borders, this fresh installment boasts a global ambiance.
The series moves forward by focusing on the police pursuit of the Brink’s-Mat heist, involving not only the criminals themselves, but also those reaping benefits from the gold trade. This exploration takes us to various settings, including the UK, Tenerife, and other Caribbean locations.
Once more, the cast includes Hugh Bonneville, Charlotte Spencer, and Tom Cullen. Additionally, several new actors have entered the mix to portray fresh characters. However, you might be wondering where the show was shot and where it takes place?
Read on for everything you need to know about the locations used for filming The Gold.
Where was The Gold season 2 filmed?

Not only does the second season of The Gold unfold in various UK settings, but it additionally takes us to the Isle of Man, the Caribbean, Spain, and Tenerife. Interestingly, all scenes shot in Spain and Tenerife were filmed exclusively in Tenerife.
Additionally, several places in Sussex were part of our study, including Firle, Hastings, and St Leonards.
In an interview, actor Emun Elliott (playing Tony Brightwell) mentioned that for season 2, they shot scenes in Santa Cruz, the capital city of Tenerife, since the narrative of The Gold expands globally in its second series.
In contrast to the first series, which primarily focused on London with brief excursions to Sierra Leone for a day and the southern coast of Spain, this sequel broadens significantly in scope. The narrative unfolds across various continents as the money’s influence spreads globally.
As I delved into season two, the grandeur and scope of the production was palpable; the budget seemed to metastasize, infecting every corner of the globe. This necessitated a diverse array of settings, which we skillfully uncovered in Tenerife. Remarkably, it transformed into the Caribbean, stood in for the south of Spain, and remained itself, all at once.
In a simpler and more conversational style: “The second series seems to tell a grander, more epic tale. Tenerife, being volcanic in nature with its hills, plains, and beaches, makes it an ideal spot for global film productions.
We’re shooting scenes at various spots, all suggested by Neil for the movie, but we don’t always physically exist where we claim to be. It’s astounding how versatile Tenerife is as a location, offering a wide range of settings from tropical landscapes to coastlines and beach resorts. The variety it provides is simply incredible.
Where was The Gold season 1 filmed?

The initial season of “The Gold” was filmed mainly within the United Kingdom, featuring sites such as Sevenoaks in Kent, Richmond in London, Dorking, Twickenham, and Dorchester Prison. Furthermore, some scenes were also shot in Spain.
When discussing filming a show set in the 1980s, Jack Lowden (who plays Kenneth Noye) mentioned something interesting: “It was surprising from a location perspective how many places we shot that didn’t require much dressing up. It just goes to show that even though it’s been about 40 years, these locations still feel quite current because they haven’t changed much and are still around today.
However, everything appeared far more analog and gray-toned. Additionally, it’s baffling for someone like me, who grew up at the same time, to witness locations where smoking was once commonplace. Notably, I had the unique opportunity to drive a real gold Rolls Royce on my first day of filming.
Standing on the bustling street corner, I found myself struck by a mixture of awe and fear as I observed the owner, who appeared visibly terrified. The scene was grand and cozy, a stark contrast to the owner’s demeanor. Frankly, I was astonished by the fashionable attire and sophisticated equipment that seemed to envelop the group nearby.
