Matthew Goode Reveals His Downton Abbey 3 Role Was Just a Tiny Scene!

Following the announcement that he wouldn’t feature in the last Downton Abbey movie because of schedule clashes and a knee surgery, Matthew Goode has recently disclosed additional insights about his character’s part in the film.

Discussing the matter under time constraints, Goodman clarified that his character, Henry, was originally intended for just a brief appearance – spanning barely a page or so – which means he wouldn’t have occupied a pivotal role within the storyline.

According to Goode, he had an extensive discussion with Michelle Dockery, who plays Lady Mary in the series, regarding potential changes to the scene. They were planning on requesting a minor script revision, but ultimately, the production continued without his involvement.

In the movie’s trailer, you can catch a glimpse of Henry appearing during the “major race day” scene.

Previously, I mentioned that his character seemed a bit bland, and it might have been for the best if he didn’t show up. However, speaking to Deadline, I shared my feelings that it was unfortunate the schedule didn’t align because I hold great affection for that cast.

Speaking about working with Hugh Bonneville and Allen Leech, he shared some fantastic stories from those filming locations. He even mentioned that they had given Maggie Smith one of the best days of her career. After wrapping up for the day, she told them it might have been her favorite day on a set yet.

The story at hand portrays Goode motivating the actors to consume 22 bottles of rosé wine on location. Although no one appeared intoxicated, there was a sense of cheerfulness or high spirits among them.

When asked if he might reprise his role in a spin-off focusing on his character and Lady Mary, Goode stated that it could be quite challenging due to the fact that Mary is a strong feminist figure who, in his words, “doesn’t require a male counterpart.

Earlier, Goodede explained that when he labeled Henry as a “limp lettuce,” it wasn’t intended with any severely negative connotations.
