Actor Jamie Borthwick, who plays Jay Brown on EastEnders, has been temporarily removed from his position by the BBC following the emergence of a video where he employed an offensive term for people with disabilities.
As a devoted fan of the silver screen, I found myself reflecting back on my journey that began on the BBC One soap way back in 2006. During my stint on Strictly Come Dancing last year, I shared some personal thoughts in a video, which I later sent to a close friend.
According to a report by The Sun, they (The Sun) published details from a video where he was seen alongside his Strictly dance partner Wynne Evans, celebrating their selection for the live tour of the show.
In the video recorded at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom, Borthwick made an offensive comment, stating: “Blackpool, quite simply, is filled with rascals.
According to a statement from the BBC, such language is completely unacceptable and does not align with the principles and standards they uphold. The BBC has strong measures in place to address such situations.

Borthwick, currently on suspension, expressed his heartfelt apologies to a media outlet for the phrases he used in a video capturing his response to advancing in Blackpool week on Strictly Come Dancing. He deeply regrets any pain and distress that his statements and behavior may have caused.
I acknowledge that my use of the term was incorrect and hurtful, as I didn’t fully comprehend its derogatory connotation at the time. I take full responsibility for this oversight. Now that I am educated on its meaning, I am deeply ashamed of my actions and the way I employed it. It was absolutely wrong.
At the time when I recorded the video, I was filled with enthusiasm and carried away by the moment. However, let me clarify that this doesn’t serve as an apology for my inappropriate behavior. What I did is not representative of my beliefs or my character.
I had a fantastic time during each moment spent at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom and the town itself. The residents of Blackpool have always been exceptional when working with the Strictly team, dancers, and cast members. I’m confident they will continue to be so for this year’s performance as well as in future years. It’s a genuine pity on my part.
In the tenth week, Borthwick along with his professional dance partner Michelle Tsiakkas were removed from Strictly Come Dancing, a week following the spectacular Blackpool event.
As a die-hard fan of both EastEnders and dance competitions, I managed to juggle my commitments seamlessly since the shows were filmed in neighboring studios. This allowed me to divide my time effectively between the two, ensuring that neither my acting nor my dancing skills suffered.
