Ghost of Yōtei’s ESRB Rating Outlines Explicit Content, Brutal Cutscenes

Though Ghost of Yotei didn’t make a significant appearance at State of Play, it will get a detailed examination in the coming month, revealing more information about it. In the interim, the Entertainment Software Rating Board has classified the PS5 exclusive as “M for Mature 17+” for now.

The listed explanations encompass “Extreme Violence, Objectionable Language, Gory Scenes,” among others. It details various gameplay elements such as rewards, challenges, and combat involving spears, bows, katanas, and firearms. Be prepared for the typical visual effects of blood splatter, with certain moves capable of beheading or dismembering enemies.

Similar to the initial installment, the cutscenes are packed with graphic violence, as demonstrated by scenes such as “characters being burned at the stake, a person stabbed repeatedly with a knife,” and a “character self-inflicting a throat slit.” Additionally, it’s revealed that you can buy sake and participate in a drinking game.

The specter of Yōtei is scheduled to debut on October 2nd, exclusively on PS5. This sequel to Ghost of Tsushima takes place approximately 300 years after the original story and introduces a new hero, Atsu. Atsu embarks on a mission of vengeance against the Yōtei Six, who can be pursued in any sequence. Much like Red Dead Redemption 2, players will have the freedom to set up camp at will. Keep an eye out for further updates during the next State of Play broadcast.
