Dune: Awakening hits a concurrent player milestone before the game officially launches — overtaking DOOM, Veilguard, Assassin’s Creed, and other major titles

As a tech-loving gamer, I’ve been eagerly waiting for the prelude to my adventure in Dune: Awakening. And guess what? For those who jumped on board during the head start period, it’s here! Although we’re all officially stepping into this vast universe tomorrow, June 10th, Steam’s player count has already surged over 100,000 this weekend. Can’t wait to see how many more of us will join in on the fun!

Currently, the roster only includes those who own either the Deluxe or Ultimate Editions of the game. Tomorrow, players who have the Standard Edition will also be able to join. Putting it another way, this is a truly remarkable accomplishment.

Back when Forza Horizon 5 debuted for Premium members, it garnered an impressive 1.2 million distinct gamers within the initial release period, while Steam saw a peak of approximately 70,000 players.

To clarify, it applies to both Xbox and Windows PC platforms, but the concept remains the same. A staggering amount of gamers have dived headfirst into the world of Arrakis.

The number of players has been steadily increasing almost daily. On the first day, we saw approximately 94,000 players. By Saturday, this figure had climbed to 106,000, and by Sunday it reached 117,000. Experts expect this trend to continue.

It has outperformed several significant titles released in the past year, exceeding games such as Dragon Age: Veilguard, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.

It makes perfect sense to me as well! In just four short days, I’ve clocked an impressive 29 hours playing this game, and I must say, it has nothing but praiseworthy aspects. Despite being in the early-to-mid sections of the game, it feels like I’m delving into one of the most meticulously crafted survival MMOs ever made.

Thus far, touch wood, everything has gone smoothly, a rarity in games of this nature. It seems we’ve left behind the era of server malfunctions and excessive queues. The turmoil over microtransactions also appears to be a thing of the past.

Are you telling me we have a successful MMO launch on our hands?

Beyond just being enjoyable, Dune: Awakening offers an abundance of fun. Grainy terrain difficulties notwithstanding, its level advancement and open-world mechanisms flow seamlessly and are impressively well-developed. It’s no surprise that it’s steadily gaining more players every day.

By June 10, we’re going to see some big numbers.
