ChatGPT was down earlier today, with the popular AI tool from OpenAI experiencing a partial outage.
Reports about ChatGPT experiencing outages began rising significantly on Downdetector from approximately 5 AM ET, lasting for multiple hours.
OpenAI confirmed the outage and shared details regularly.
What is ChatGPT?
As a dedicated user, I’m always amazed by this incredible digital companion, ChatGPT, developed by the brilliant minds at OpenAI. It’s an all-purpose tool that serves over hundreds of millions of us, from helping us tackle complex coding tasks to providing quick and accurate answers to our general queries. It truly is a marvel!
ChatGPT is not the only AI chatbot available, but it’s certainly one of the most recognized ones. Just like how people often use “Google” as a catch-all term for web searches, “ChatGPT” has become synonymous with AI-driven conversational tools in the minds of many users.
Microsoft and ChatGPT
Microsoft has a significant stake in the company that developed ChatGPT (OpenAI). A substantial collaboration exists between Microsoft and OpenAI, although it’s currently experiencing some strain. However, they continue to maintain a close working relationship.
As a researcher, I find myself in a new phase where OpenAI is no longer solely reliant on Microsoft’s cloud services. However, Microsoft still maintains the privilege of being the first to consider any proposals for partnership and expansion. Interestingly, OpenAI has openly expressed concerns about Microsoft’s limited computing resources, which they believe have impeded our progress in achieving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
According to the Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, it’s an amazing day for Microsoft whenever ChatGPT achieves success.
