A fresh director is now leading the way for The Incredibles’ future, one of Pixar’s most successful box office gems.
The announcement has been made that Peter Sohn will be stepping into the director’s role for the highly anticipated third movie, replacing Brad Bird who was responsible for both directing and writing the script for the initial two films in the popular animated series.
Despite not being the director for the upcoming third film, Bird is said to be penning the script, ensuring a continuation of the signature humor, action, and emotional depth that characterized The Incredibles and its follow-up, Incredibles 2.
Son has experience with big-screen productions, as demonstrated by his work on Elemental, the critically acclaimed 2023 film that delved into deep topics like identity and diversity using a romantic comedy format centered around a love story between a character representing fire and another representing water.
Additionally, he was responsible for overseeing “The Good Dinosaur” movie released in 2015. This film narrated an adventure tale about a baby dinosaur and a naughty caveboy, who embarked on a journey together to find their way back home.

Throughout his career, Son has contributed to multiple Pixar productions such as Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, WALL-E, and both earlier versions of The Incredibles, taking on various tasks including voice work.
Indeed, Bird has served as a mentor for Sohn, with Sohn contributing to every animated movie of Bird’s until this year’s Ray Gunn. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Sohn was “specially chosen to continue the legacy of The Incredibles by Bird and Pixar’s chief creative officer, Pete Docter”.
Regarding the plot of Incredibles 3, we’re still in the dark at the moment. However, the original film, released in 2004, focused on a superhero family trying to hide their powers from the government. Despite their efforts, they were faced with a villain who was once a fan but turned against them, aiming to eliminate the entire family.
A little while after its initial launch, Incredibles 2 premiered in cinemas in the year 2018. In this sequel, Helen (portrayed by Holly Hunter) emerged as the leading superhero, aiming to sway public opinion. The movie showed Bob (Craig T Nelson) adapting to a life as a stay-at-home dad, but eventually, the family united to defeat the villain.

The movie ended with peace being reestablished since the superheroes regained their legitimate identities, allowing them to no longer hide. Naturally, it concluded dramatically as the family put on their masks again when they saw a police pursuit nearby, suggesting that a significant new villain may appear in this third part of the series.
At the D23 Expo event held in August 2024, Disney made an official declaration about a third movie; however, specifics regarding the storyline and actors involved are scarce at this moment.
