As a diehard movie enthusiast counting down the days till Karen Pirie graces our screens once more in season 2, I can’t hide my excitement as brand-new sneak peeks of what’s to come have just been revealed!
Once more, Lauren Lyle takes on the title character created by Val McDermid. Now, she finds herself in the role of Detective Inspector, still adjusting to her new post, when she receives an intriguing and challenging case to solve.
Exploring a notorious, unsolved vanishing that promises to catapult the latest Detective Inspector into the public limelight, Karen must navigate increasing tension from her superior and shadowy elements who prefer the old secrets remain hidden, as hinted by the plot summary.
Freshly unveiled snapshots offer a sneak peek into James Cosmo’s latest role, Sir Broderick Grant, whose child has been missing for decades, along with Karen and Jason (played by Chris Jenks) on set at what appears to be a sun-kissed location. Where could this adventure lead them?

The 1984 case of Catriona Grant, a captivating young heir to an extensive oil empire, and her son Adam (aged 2), remains one of the most baffling mysteries for investigators and continues to intrigue the public more than any other. The pair were violently kidnapped at gunpoint outside a fish and chip shop in Fife.
As a cinephile, I can’t help but reflect on the chilling events that unfolded. The mysterious ransom notes had set off a whirlwind of media frenzy, but when the perpetrators fell silent, the authorities seemed to lose their footing. Sadly, Catriona and Adam vanished without a trace, leaving behind a mystery yet unsolved.
The body of a man connected to the initial kidnapping has been found, providing the first substantial evidence in years. With this breakthrough, Karen will need to put together an exceptional team, working alongside her trustworthy and charming partner DC Jason ‘Mint’ Murray (Chris Jenks) and the intellectually gifted yet romantically tangled DS Phil Parhatka (Zach Wyatt).

The upcoming season consists of three full-length episodes, each running for approximately 120 minutes, similar to the first season’s format.
The upcoming episode draws inspiration from McDermid’s novel “A Darker Domain” and has been reworked yet again by Emer Kenny, who also appears in the show.
As I eagerly await the arrival of Season 2, I must admit that Lyle has certainly kept me entertained recently. He’s been popping up in some fantastic shows like Toxic Town and The Bombing of Pan Am 103 β quite a thrill to see him there!
In addition to Lyle and Kenny, the recurring characters Chris Jenks, Zach Wyatt, Steve John Shepherd, and Rakhee Thakrar will also be part of the Karen Pirie ensemble.
