Following the unveiling of a trailer for _The Outer Worlds 2_, Obsidian Entertainment has been disclosing further information about their upcoming RPG. In an interview with GamesRadar, director Brandon Adler discussed enhancements made in the shooting gameplay of _The Outer Worlds 2_, notably contrasting it with its forerunner.
In his analysis, Adler mentioned that the team behind the project took inspiration from games such as Destiny and sought guidance from the creators of Halo to ensure the gunplay in The Outer Worlds 2 would be enjoyable. Moreover, he pointed out that the developers were cognizant of the room for improvement in the shooting mechanics of The Outer Worlds at its initial release.
He mentioned that before the first release of “The Outer Worlds,” one of the aspects they intended to enhance for a potential sequel was already identified. This insight prompted them to scrutinize Bungie’s multiplayer shooter, “Destiny,” in order to discover additional ways to make improvements.
According to Adler, when Obsidian Entertainment needed guidance, they reached out to Halo Studios, essentially inquiring about their methods, identifying areas where they were falling short, and seeking suggestions for improvement.
Adler stated, “They provided us with an extensive checklist and suggested focusing on certain items. We incorporated those suggestions into our weapon setup, as indicated.
Adler pointed out that focusing significantly on the fundamental fight mechanics in the game significantly enhanced the entire gaming experience. In other words, they chose to invest a lot of time and resources into making these core combat elements a reality, which turned out to be crucial for them from the beginning.
In previous discussions, Adler has touched upon the general mood of “The Outer Worlds 2,” particularly in contrast to the original game. He mentioned that the first game might have been monotonous at times, as it could lean heavily on a single comedic tone, which created a dissonance in its overall style when dealing with tonal differences.
As a passionate fan, I yearn to offer an innovative spin on things to ensure that it doesn’t become monotonous – like constantly laughing at the same old jokes, consuming repetitive content, or encountering familiar ideas and narratives ad infinitum. This is my aim.
In response to this, Adler mentioned that in developing The Outer Worlds 2, Obsidian Entertainment chose to tone down some of the lightheartedness and lean more towards a darker atmosphere compared to the first game.
Adler mentioned that you’ll observe a slightly less humorous, more ominous atmosphere emerging. This is largely due to Leonard, as he tends to bring that sort of vibe. Therefore, he has a significant influence on the darker elements, and as a result, the overall narrative seems to have a grittier interpretation of the events.
The upcoming game, “The Outer Worlds 2”, is scheduled for launch on October 29 and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
