MindsEye Optimisation Issues on PS5 is Causing Sony to Allow Refunds on Digital Version of the Game

It appears that developer Build A Rocket Boy has acknowledged optimization and technical problems with their latest action game, MindsEye. Reminiscent of how Sony handled Cyberpunk 2077 upon its initial release on PS4, the company seems to be offering no-questions-asked refunds for MindsEye due to its technical issues, as reported by Insider Gaming and Reddit user MasterOfMoogles1995.

As a passionate gamer, I recently came across a post on Reddit where a user shared their interaction with the PlayStation support team. In one of the messages, a representative from the PlayStation Support Team admitted that my observation was spot on – contrary to what’s stated in its PlayStation Store description, MindsEye is indeed unable to run at 60 frames per second.

Here are the steps to follow up:

1. Reply to the PlayStation’s support team member’s message, acknowledging that they have confirmed your assessment about game optimization and appreciate their assistance.
2. Express your understanding that the issue is under investigation.
3. Request an update on the progress of the investigation.
4. Inform them that you would like to proceed with your refund request in the meantime, if possible.
5. End by thanking them for their help and patience.

“Thank you so much for confirming my observation about the game’s optimization issues, I really appreciate your assistance! I understand that the situation is currently under investigation, but I would greatly appreciate an update on its progress if possible. In the meantime, I would like to proceed with my refund request if it’s feasible. Thank you again for your help and patience.”

Historically, Sony has been tight-fisted about granting refunds for digital games purchased on PlayStation Store. As previously discussed, the last instance of this was with the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4, which faced numerous technical issues. In the end, Sony removed the game from its online marketplace.

A discontented ‘MindsEye’ user named WolfgangMishima shared his interaction with PlayStation support on social media platform X, where the support team acknowledged that although refunds for games purchased from the PlayStation Store are usually not granted, given that WolfgangMishima is still experiencing issues with the game’s optimization, they would make an exception.

The representative from PlayStation Support informed me they would be able to issue a refund for you. Typically, refunds aren’t possible for downloaded games due to the PlayStation Store policy. But given the problems you encountered with the game after your troubleshooting efforts, and your desire for a refund, they are making an exception as a goodwill gesture and will process your refund.

Build A Rocket Boy has unveiled plans to introduce a fix, referred to as a hotfix, for their game MindsEye. This update is initially scheduled for release on PC platforms, with the intention to follow on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game “at the earliest opportunity.

In their statement, the studio highlighted that the main focus of the update is to enhance the game’s performance across both CPU and GPU, as well as other aspects such as displaying pop-ups to remind players if they attempt to play MindsEye without crucial features like Accelerated GPU Scheduling activated.

Currently, our primary focus is ensuring the best possible game performance. We recognize that the demands are substantial and regret to inform you that some aspects of the game may not be as rich as expected due to these requirements. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience caused.
