Xbox to Blame for The Outer Worlds 2’s Devastating $80 PS5 Price Point

On PlayStation 5, The Outer Worlds 2 will retail for $80. However, it’s possible that not all the game data may be present on the disc if you opt for a physical copy of the game.

According to a survey by Push Square, an astounding 53% of PlayStation 5 gamers firmly declared they wouldn’t pay the high price tag to play the sequel of the RPG at its release. Additionally, 35% of the players stated they weren’t interested in it from the start. This suggests that a mere 12% of the over 1,000 players surveyed are likely to buy it when it launches initially.

In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, director Brandon Adler attributed the higher price point to Xbox Game Studios.

“We’re a game developer,” he gasped. “We love to make games. We don’t set the prices for our games.

As a game creator, it is my heartfelt desire for everyone to experience my creation. That’s the essence of what I am striving for. However, when asked about the high price point ($79.99) of the game, I must refer you to the Xbox team for a detailed explanation.

Earlier in the year, Microsoft had indicated that they expected games to cost around $80. However, people had hoped that they would be more open to adjusting prices. Although we’re not fond of it, we believe that popular titles like Call of Duty could handle an increase in their retail price. But, we’re skeptical if the sequel to The Outer Worlds has enough appeal to justify a higher price tag.

The Redmond company might be aiming to enhance the appeal of its subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, by this move. However, one perspective suggests that they require revenue from full-priced sales on other platforms to offset the expenses of including such costly items in their relatively inexpensive monthly subscription.

In this specific case, our sympathies lie with Adler, however, we anticipate a challenging launch for this game, which may necessitate substantial price reductions to achieve respectable sales figures on the PlayStation 5.
