Despite the upcoming release of Pixar’s movie Elio being only a week away, they’re giving fans a sneak peek into their future plans by revealing glimpses of their upcoming projects. On their official social media platform (previously Twitter), Pixar unveiled an image from the film Hoppers and a sketch for Toy Story 5. Both movies are slated for release in 2026. The artwork for Toy Story 5 features Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, and Bullseye looking puzzled by the presence of a children’s electronic toy called Lilypad. On the screen, there seem to be speech bubbles, but it’s unclear what the device exactly is.
At the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Pixar revealed the images, synchronizing with their presentation there. According to The Wrap, during this event, Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer, Pete Docter, announced that Jessie has become the head of the toys in Bonnie’s room, with Buzz Lightyear acting as her second-in-command. The challenge they face is that Bonnie, now eight years old, seems to be losing enthusiasm for her more conventional toys. Furthermore, a sneak peek of the rogue group of commemorative Buzz Lightyear action figures was shown during a screening of the opening sequence. In this sequence, the Buzzes awaken on a beach, navigate their way to a shipping container, and gather around a campfire. Here’s an image from Toy Story 5 for you to see:
The fifth installment of Toy Story is set to debut in June next year. Previously known star Tim Allen hinted that this time, Jessie takes on a more prominent role, though Buzz Lightyear and Woody still reunite. Allen also commended the Pixar team for crafting a “remarkably smart” story that’s not just a money-grabbing sequel. He feels confident that Toy Story 5 won’t detract from the emotional conclusion of Toy Story 4, where Woody parted ways with his group and embraced his role as a “lost toy,” joining Bo Peep in her adventures.

Anticipating fans’ eagerness for a glimpse of Toy Story 5, Pixar has been diligently expanding its ensemble cast. Recently, Conan O’Brien announced he will lend his voice to a new character named Smarty Pants. Meanwhile, Ernie Hudson is stepping into the role previously held by the late Carl Weathers as action figure Combat Carl.
The central theme of Toy Story 5 appears to revolve around the clash between toys and technology, which is evident in the concept art that Pixar has chosen to reveal. As they prepare to unveil a sneak peek of the movie (like a teaser trailer), they are gradually familiarizing the audience with the storyline’s basic outline. The plot could serve as an entertaining twist on the original Toy Story, where Buzz Lightyear represented the latest trend with his lights and gadgets. Now, he faces the risk of being replaced by tablets, smartphones, and other electronic devices that keep children engaged. Historically, Pixar has been skilled at incorporating creative perspectives into their films, so it’s expected that Toy Story 5 will tackle some thought-provoking themes for adults while keeping the younger audience entertained.
As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled at the prospect of seeing Jesse take center stage in Toy Story 5. Despite her memorable moments throughout the series, she’s often played a supporting role, with the Toy Story films primarily focusing on Woody adapting to new environments. With Woody’s story seemingly concluded in Toy Story 4, it’s high time we delve deeper into other characters’ narratives, and Jesse seems like an excellent choice. I can’t wait to uncover more about her journey as the hype for Toy Story 5 builds up!
