Marvel Studios Shocks Fans by Recasting Key Spider-Man Character for Phase 6!

In the build-up to Marvel Studios‘ Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and beyond, there has been an abundance of chatter about casting decisions and theories. Yet, the recent casting updates revolve around a Spider-Man character that is already part of the MCU, but who will be played by a new actor for a role set to debut in 2026.

Delighted by the news, I find myself admiringly sharing that Emily Hampshire, renowned for her role in Schitt’s Creek, has been cast in the upcoming Vision Quest spin-off from Marvel Studios, set to premiere on Disney+ in 2026. It seems Hampshire will bring EDITH, the AI created by Tony Stark and entrusted to Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), to life. She’ll be sharing the screen with Paul Bettany in this exciting new venture.

Besides White Vision portrayed by Bettany in “WandaVision”, the upcoming movie “Vision Quest” is anticipated to include several artificial intelligence robots from the MCU, including Kerry Condon’s FRIDAY and James Spader’s Ultron. Unlike her fellow cast members, Emily Hampshire is distinct as she’s taking over Dawn Michelle King’s role as the voice of EDITH, a character she didn’t voice in previous films, from “Spider-Man: Far From Home”.

As I, the user, donned a pair of sunglasses reminiscent of Tony Stark’s design, I gained access to Stark Industries’ worldwide satellite network and an array of missiles and drones, known as EDITH or “Even Dead, I’m The Hero.” In the movie Far From Home, Peter Parker temporarily handed over these glasses to Quentin Beck, also known as Mysterio. However, in the film’s climax, I managed to reclaim the EDITH glasses. The latest audiences saw of EDITh was in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Damage Control captured images of the glasses as proof.

As a follower, I’m excited to share that “Vision Quest” is the next anticipated spin-off series on Disney+ following “Agatha All Along,” expected in 2024. This intriguing production will feature Faran Tahir as Raza and T’Nia Miller as Jocasta. Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that “Vision Quest” will be available for streaming in the year 2026.

What Spider-Man’s New EDITH Means for Vision Quest

Unlike Kerry Condon, who primarily works as an actress in FRIDAY, Dawn Michelle King, the voice behind EDITH, has a different background. She is not just an actress but also a director and editor, and she’s deeply involved with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), starting with 2008’s “Iron Man.” Given that she provides the voice for EDITH, it seems logical to keep her as the voice even if they were to introduce a human version of EDITH.

Instead of EDITH, a humanoid creation by Tony Stark, lending credence to the theory, there’s speculation that this could hint at Vision Quest borrowing elements from Marvel Comics’ Iron Man 2020 series. This narrative also featured Jocasta, a former Avenger, and James Rhodes as War Machine, leading fans to ponder if the shelved Armor Wars might make an appearance in Vision Quest too.

2026 can’t come soon enough for Marvel fans like me, as we eagerly await more details about the upcoming Disney+ series. It’s exciting to know that the same year will also see the release of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”. Can’t wait to see what surprises these two releases hold!

In the aftermath of the events in “No Way Home“, it’s expected that Spider-Man will operate independently. However, whispers indicate that the part played by a particular Avenger in “Spider-Man 4” might extend beyond a brief appearance. If this is true, the possibility of EDITH becoming more significant can’t be ruled out, given her connection to Spider-Man and his mentor.

Vision Quest is set to debut on Disney+ in 2026.
