A while ago, we shared news about Anbernic’s new handheld resembling the PSPgo in design. Now, initial user experiences with this gadget are emerging on the web, and it appears to be nothing short of fantastic.
Currently, the benchmarks are under a temporary hold, but the chipset shares similarities with the RG556. This implies that you can anticipate playing games ranging from those compatible with the PSP and even beyond, up to moderately demanding titles like some PS2 and GameCube games.
In focus, we find the slide mechanism and screen to be particularly captivating. The mechanism exudes a sense of satisfying quality, and the screen, though not OLED, delivers an experience that’s nearly indistinguishable, boasting excellent contrast and truly remarkable brightness. It operates at 120fps, adding a nice touch.

The release date hasn’t been announced officially yet, but it looks like pre-orders will be opening soon, with prices starting at $179.99. This positions it in a similar price range as the more potent Retroid Pocket 5, but what truly shines about this device is its unique design.
To be honest, we’ve always been fond of the PSPgo’s design, and although it was slimmer than what they’re offering now, Anbernic has done an impressive job. However, the question remains: is another retro handheld really necessary for you? (Probably not!)
