A Minecraft Movie Sets HBO Max Release Date (And It’s Soon)

As a hardcore Minecraft gamer, I’ve got to say that the Minecraft movie was an absolute smash hit for Warner Bros. Discovery and Legendary! It came oh-so-close to hitting the $1 billion mark at the box office, only falling short by a mere $49 million. That means it’s now nestled comfortably in the second spot as the second-highest-grossing video game movie of all time, with The Super Mario Bros. Movie still reigning supreme with over $1.3 billion in earnings worldwide. But hey, that’s nothing to sneeze at! Now, fans like me can catch a rewatch or even a first-time viewing from the comfort of our own homes.

As a passionate gamer, I’m super excited because “Minecraft: The Movie” is set to stream on Max this Friday, June 20th! But if you miss it, don’t worry, you can catch it on HBO starting from Saturday, June 21st at 8:00 PM EST. It’ll be intriguing to see how soon they announce a sequel for this film, considering Mike De Luca and Pam Abby mentioned during an interview that the development of a sequel for both “Beetlejuice” and “A Minecraft Movie” is already in its early stages. They even used the word “imminently” to describe where they are with the development!

In the second additional scene following the credits, a character is introduced who could significantly impact future installments. However, no actress has been cast for this part as of now, and she remains unseen on-screen. In an interview with Deadline, director Jared Hess hinted at grand plans if a sequel is produced, expressing his enthusiasm about the possibility of bringing it to life.

As a devoted fan myself, I must say that crafting this movie was an absolute joy, given the vastness of the game’s universe. There were countless aspects we didn’t get to explore in our first venture that we yearned to delve into. If the opportunity arises, I couldn’t be more thrilled to revisit this world for a sequel! It appears that discussions about a follow-up are already underway, which has me incredibly excited. The prospect of returning to this world is simply exhilarating, and judging by the enthusiasm of the fans, they seem to be having an incredible time too. In fact, we even hinted at potential new adventures in the end credits, and the response from the audience has been nothing short of spectacular!
