In the realm of television’s most memorable characters, I, the humble critic, was fortunate enough to witness the creation of Samantha Jones in Sex and the City. Contrary to popular belief, it wasn’t an immediate ‘yes’ for me; I declined the offer four times before finally stepping into those Jimmy Choos. It was a decision that, looking back now, I wouldn’t trade for anything.
After starring in six seasons of the HBO comedy-drama, the actress later featured in two movie adaptations, followed by a highly anticipated guest role in the final episode of the second season of its successor series titled “And Just Like That”.
In a conversation with The Times, Sarah Jessica Parker shared that my initial hesitations about the project stemmed from my personal views on women growing older. At the tender age of 41, I declined the role not once, but four times before eventually agreeing to join the cast.
Regarding her previous reluctance about embracing a sexually assertive character due to self-imposed ageism, Cattrall stated: “But then, 40 became appealing as the sexy age. It transformed into ‘Wow, we want even more of that!’
In her own words, she referred to herself as a dedicated “one-person-at-a-time relationship enthusiast,” contrasting this with Samantha’s character. Regarding Samantha, Cattrall stated that she wasn’t portraying a “sexually compulsive” individual, but rather someone who was “fully indulging in the main course,” while others were merely “sampling the appetizers.
In her observations, Cattrall stated that Samantha’s sexual encounters were consistently dictated by her own preferences, a fact he himself emphasized.

Additionally, Cattrall shared that she’s perfectly fine with being primarily recognized for her character, as she poured a great deal of affection into portraying it.
As a devoted cinephile, I’ve taken note of the buzz surrounding Samantha, following Carrie’s BFF denying last year any plans for her character’s return in the third season of And Just Like That.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I can’t help but share the latest scoop about my beloved actress. In response to all the buzz about those comeback rumors swirling on the once-popular platform, X (previously known as Twitter), she expressed her gratitude for the kind words but clarified that a return isn’t in the cards for her at this moment.
At present, the third season of the Sex and the City revival series is being broadcast, featuring Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis in significant roles from the original group.
In addition to the regular episodes, some special appearances are expected from actors like Logan Marshall-Green, Mehcad Brooks, and Jonathan Cake. Notably, Rosie O’Donnell made an appearance in the latest premiere as a character who is a nun, and in a passionate night, she loses her virginity to Miranda Hobbes (Nixon).
In the UK, new episodes of “And Just Like That…” Season 3 will be broadcasted every week on Sky Comedy and NOW. If you haven’t seen the first two seasons yet, you can catch up by streaming them on NOW.
