How Larry Birkhead Feels About Dannielynn Following Anna Nicole Career

Larry Birkhead is being cautious. 

As a dedicated follower, I recently had the opportunity to engage in an open conversation with the photographer about Dannielynn Birkhead, the 18-year-old daughter of the late Anna Nicole Smith. It seems that Dannielynn is following in her mother’s footsteps, aiming for a career in modeling and acting.

In an exclusive interview with Francesca Amiker from TopMob News before Father’s Day 2025, Larry shared his reservations. He said, “I might back her decision if she goes for it, but I prefer another path. After all, it’s not entirely my journey.

In simpler terms, the 52-year-old shared that his hesitation is primarily due to factors unrelated to Dannielynn, as she was born six months before her mother passed away from an overdose in 2007.

Larry added, “People are swift to form opinions. They might comment, ‘Look, she’s just mimicking her mother.’ However, since her mother has passed away, this phrase takes on a more negative meaning for them.

Although he may be reluctant, it doesn’t necessarily imply that he will prevent the teenager from entering the entertainment industry.

In Larry’s words, he explained, “As a father, it’s my role to tell her about the challenges she may encounter.” He worked as both a reporter and photographer, giving him insight into the industry. Seeing its challenges firsthand when Anna went through them made him question if this is the path she truly wants. His intention is to help her make an educated decision based on his experiences.

Besides readying her for potential stressors, the MadTV actor aims to establish a safety net for Dannielynn, ensuring she has a backup plan if her modeling career doesn’t succeed.

Whenever I chat with her, I always emphasize the importance of building a strong academic base first: “Study hard and let your education be the foundation,” I often say. On top of that, I suggest she dabble in modeling or acting as a side hustle. If it starts gaining traction, then we can revisit the situation. You see, I come from a lineage of educators – principals, teachers – so I’m trying to impart that wisdom onto her.

Meanwhile, Larry mentioned that his daughter appears drawn to the world of art, but emphasized that no decisions have been made definitively yet.

Larry shared with TopMob that they’re considering visiting various universities. She seems to have certain preferences regarding where she wants to study and what she aims to achieve. A few options stand out as her top choices.

He added, “She participated in a few school plays, receiving positive comments from the school. However, it was just recently that she has begun contemplating a return to modeling and acting careers.

For now, Larry is focused on making sure he and Dannielynn have a great Father’s Day together. 

He mentioned that he allows Dannielynn to choose how they spend their day. She often inquires about his preferences, but they struggle to agree on plans. To avoid this, he typically defers the decision to her, and most times it results in a visit to a theme park or some exciting excursion.

Larry mentioned, “For this year, I believe our plan is Disney World, and with the heat, we might also visit a water park as well.

At the 2022 Barnstable-Brown Gala, which is a pre-event for the Kentucky Derby, both Larry and Dannielynn made an appearance. Notably, Dannielynn donned an outfit that was previously worn by Janet Jackson at the 2003 edition of this gala. In fact, Larry mentioned that they had acquired this outfit from Julien’s Auction, with the funds generated being donated to charity.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’d rephrase it as: Last year at the 2022 Kentucky Derby, I, Anna Nicole Smith’s daughter, sported a vibrant ensemble while posing alongside my dad, Larry Birkhead, capturing a memorable moment together.
