In a nod to the iconic phrase, “By the power of Grayskull” – actor Nicholas Galitzine wields the legendary Power Sword in the initial glimpse of He-Man from Amazon MGM’s live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe. The character, Prince Adam of Eternia, transforms into the most potent man in the universe and protector of Castle Grayskull’s secrets. This film, helmed by director Travis Knight (Bumblebee) and screenwriter Chris Butler (ParaNorman), has completed production.
Galitzine announced on Instagram that filming for Masters of the Universe has concluded. He felt privileged to portray Adam and He-Man, a role he poured his heart into. Unfortunately, he can’t reveal much, but he’s incredibly proud of the movie we’ve produced. A big thank you goes out to our talented cast and crew for your dedication and tireless efforts.
In this animated series that takes inspiration from Mattel toyline, the characters are portrayed as follows: Camila Mendes from “Riverdale” plays the warrior Teela; Idris Elba known for “Luther” is depicted as Teela’s adoptive father and mentor, Duncan/Man-At-Arms; Alison Brie famous for “Community” brings the dark sorceress Evil-Lyn to life; Morena Baccarin from “Deadpool” takes on the role of Teela Na, the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull; and Jared Leto who starred in “Tron: Ares” portrays the villainous Skeletor.
Completing the ensemble are powerhouse Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, known for his role in Game of Thrones, stepping into the role of Goat Man. Kojo Attah, famous for The Beekeeper, takes on Tri-Klops. Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson from Captain America: Brave New World joins as the metal battle-fisted Fisto. Jon Xue Zhang, recognized for his work in Kraven the Hunter, becomes Ram-Man. Sam C. Wilson, a familiar face from House of the Dragon, portrays Trap Jaw. Lastly, Sasheer Zamata, star of Agatha All Along, is cast as Adam’s closest friend, Suzie.
Galitzine stated earlier this year that our interpretation of He-Man is significantly distinct from the initial animation, which was undeniably campy yet effective for its era. The actor, known for his roles in “Purple Hearts” and “Bottoms”, further expressed that there have been multiple adaptations of He-Man, ranging from the mini comics included with ’80s action figures to the recent Netflix sequel series “Masters of the Universe: Revelation”. He found it astonishing to learn about the impact the original show had on many people.
Galitzine expressed that it was a significant learning experience for many, making it thrilling to create something that would evoke a sense of nostalgia while also drawing in a large number of fresh supporters.
Amazon and Mattel’s Masters of the Universe movie is slated to open in theaters on June 5, 2026.
