How to Use the Scanner in The Alters

At an initial stage of the game, you’ll find yourself employing exploration tools, or simply ‘probes’, to locate resource deposits beneath the surface. These probes aid in identifying the subterranean reserves essential for advancing in the game.

To start off, I’ll be picking up my trusty terrain scanner, a crucial tool for locating hidden mineral reserves beneath the earth. Since I’m new to this, the game’s got some easy-to-follow guidelines on how to operate it effectively.

If you find yourself in need of assistance, simply press and hold the ‘F’ key to emit a scan wave. This action will cause waves to manifest on the ground, and each one will guide you towards an hidden deposit beneath it.

Continue adjusting and moving your “triangular sensors” until you reach the correct location. If you don’t have too many of them, feel free to pick them up and reposition as needed. Just track the signals until the color becomes increasingly dense.

By observing the direction of the waves, you’ll eventually reach the precise location of the hidden deposit. The color of these waves will transition from being invisible, to a soft pink, and ultimately to a deep red when you arrive at the correct site.

In the provided image, you can observe a representation of how the waves appear from their exterior, all the way to where they meet the deposit. Continuously adjust your polygonal scanners until you discover the hidden red spot beneath.

After determining the location of the red spot beneath the surface, you are now able to establish your subterranean mining facility over that spot. For convenience in future travels, consider placing a teleportation tower on one side too, allowing for quick transportation here at a later time.
