Help Bring Back Goodnight Sweetheart: Fans Needed for Exciting New Novel!

As an ardent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that a new chapter in the “A Goodnight Sweetheart” saga is underway, picking up from where the 2016 revival left off! However, for this story to unfold as we all hope, we fans need to join forces and lend our support to bring it to life. Let’s make history together!

Originally broadcast from 1993 to 1999, “Goodnight Sweetheart” was a series that featured Nicholas Lyndhurst in the role of Gary Sparrow, an unintentional time traveler who lived two distinct lives, moving between the 1990s and the 1940s.

In 2016, the show was brought back for a single special episode, joining other classic comedies such as Are You Being Served? and Porridge in a comedy lineup by the BBC. The lineup also introduced new shows like Motherland and Goodnight Sweetheart was not granted a full new season, a move that sparked controversy among fans.

Currently, a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter is underway to finance a new novel written by the series creators, Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, in collaboration with Idiot Box Books. This novel will serve as a sequel to the original show.

It currently has 38 days left to run, and so far £7,833 has been raised of the £30,000 goal.

If approved, the project will become the seventh series of Goodnight Sweetheart, assuming it gets the green light from Fremantle.

The summary for the upcoming book indicates that the storyline kicks off slightly prior to the incidents depicted in the revival episode. Tensions escalate for Gary in 1962, as Marilyn Monroe performs at President Kennedy’s birthday celebration.

When Gary initially encountered Phoebe, he playfully informed her that the woman he’d left behind in LA was named Marilyn Monroe. This was merely a personal jest of his. He never imagined he would be dwelling on the past, being married to Phoebe as Marilyn rose to fame as an international sex symbol during the 1950s.

For a long time, whenever Phoebe watched Marilyn on the big screen, her insecurities would take over. She often wondered if Gary might return to Hollywood to rekindle his love with Marilyn. However, Marilyn’s unexpected death at 36 resurfaced all of Phoebe’s old feelings about the situation.

The narrative unfolds further as Gary encounters the renowned figures, Brian Epstein (the Beatles’ manager) and Ian Fleming (the author of James Bond novels).

Or:

The story progresses, introducing Gary to famous personalities such as Brian Epstein (who managed the Beatles) and Ian Fleming (the creator of James Bond).

In the end, he unexpectedly lands in the 21st century and grapples with the reality of having a teenager as a daughter. He ponders if he’s capable of rekindling his old lifestyle, or if he should make a decision between his former life or the one he has now.
